Past Simple - Something true for some time in the past Example: I lived abroad for 10 years. Past Simple structure (+): S + V2/ Ved + O Example: She went swimming yesterday. Past Simple structure (-): S + did not (didn’t) + Vbare + O Example: James didn’t stay at home last night. Past Simple structure (?): Did + S + Bare + O ? Example: Did you do your homework last Friday? Past Continuous - For something that happened before and after a specific time Example: It was eight o'clock. I was writing a letter. Past Continuous - For something that happened before or after another action Example: The children were doing their homework when I got home. Past Continuous - For something that happened repeatedly - Example: - I was practising every day, three times a day. Past Continuous (+): S + was/were + Ving Example: He was listening to the music at 8PM last night. Past Continuous (-): S + was/were + not + Ving Example: He was not listening to the music at 8PM last night. Past Continuous (?): Was/were + S + Ving? Example: Was he doing homework at 8PM last night? Let’s practice
