Reason For Change: DGMS cited Technical Circular No. of 2019 regarding safe conduct of operations in Workover Oil/ Gas Mines for installation of AFDSS, in the interest of safety and especially in the wake of fatal accident at an onshore work over oil mine. Since the rig engine is in proximity of well and is much susceptible to act as source of fire in case of engine overrun/electrical spark etc. in an environment surcharged with HC gas cloud created at the site due to workover operations in abnormal working condition, which is very hazardous for manpower and capital equipment installed on WORK OVER RIG. The main purpose of AFDSS on diesel engine is to reduce human intervention in mitigation/suppression of fire in case of fire hazards on or near diesel engine Impact Change will have on Health, Operating Procedures, Safety and Environment (Hazard Analysis): AFDSS will automatically detect and suppress fire on or near the diesel engine at initial stage without any human intervention. This technology induction will have a long lasting positive impact on health and safety of manpower and capital. : As CO> is used as extinguishing agent in AFDSS, it is not harmful for human beings (if inhaled), engine (if sucked along with air), engine electrical/mechanical accessories. Action Plan (if any): During conceptualization phase, needful study of the engine for the installation of the new AFDSS, and field visit by maintenance team as well as In-charge HSE, WS Cambay Asset was done in order to figure out a working solution and plan a basic drawing of the same. Several enquiries were made regarding supply and installation of CO. based AFDSS from many vendors, which were expert in installing such systems and had installed AFDSS on enclosed electrical panels and fully/partially enclosed diesel engines. s a wa. a. 39 /.v.
