You are one of the active volunteers of Green Campaign in your

area. One day, you
see your younger sister throwing some plastic bags into the trash.
You are not happy
with her action. You talk about the importance of protecting the
environment through
recycling with her.
You should talk about the following points:
 The reasons why we need to recycle things
 How to recycle things
 What we should do to warn other people about environmental
problems
 What solutions to those problems are
Talk to your partner/s for at least 5 minutes (pairs) or 8 minutes
(group of 3)
A: "Hey, I noticed you throwing those plastic bags into the trash. You
know how important it is to recycle, right?"

B: "Oh, it's no big deal. They'll just get thrown away like everything
else."

A: "Actually, it is a big deal. Recycling is crucial for protecting the

environment. When we recycle, we reduce the amount of waste that
goes into landfills and incinerators, which in turn helps in conserving
natural resources and reduces pollution."

B: "I never really thought about it that way. So, how do we recycle
things?"

A: "It's pretty simple. We can start by sorting our waste into different
categories such as paper, plastic, glass, and organic waste.
B: "Got it. That sounds doable. But how can we inform others about the
importance of recycling and environmental problems in general?"

A: "We can start by setting an example ourselves and making sure to

recycle at home. We can also spread awareness by posting on social
media, participating in community events focused on sustainability, and
educating our friends and classmates about the impact of waste on the
environment.
B: "That's a great idea. But what are some solutions to the environmental
problems caused by waste and pollution?"

A: "There are many solutions we can implement. One is to reduce the

use of single-use plastics and opt for reusable items like water bottles,
bags, and containers. We can also take part in clean-up efforts to keep
our surroundings free from litter and pollution."

B: "I never realized how much impact we can have on the environment.
I think I'll start being more mindful about recycling from now on."

A: "That's great to hear! Every small action we take can contribute to a

healthier environment. I'm proud of you for being open to making a
positive change. Let's work together to spread the word and make a
difference in our community."

CARD 13 ‫׀‬Environmental Studies

You and your partner are going to start a project related to trash
reduction in some
public places around your city/town.
You may talk about the following points:
 name of the project
 kind(s) of trash reduced in the project
 benefits of the project
 duration of the project
 person/ people involved in the project
Talk to your partner/s for at least 5 minutes (pairs) or 8 minutes
(group of 3).

You: "Hey, I've been thinking about our environmental impact lately, and I
really feel we should start a project to reduce trash in our city. What do you
think?"
Partner: "I absolutely agree. It's such an important issue, and I think it's a
great opportunity for us to make a positive impact. What did you have in
mind for the project?"

You: "I was thinking of starting a project called 'Clean Streets, Clear Future.'
It will focus on reducing plastic waste and litter in public places, such as
parks, streets, and public squares."

Partner: "That's a fantastic idea. Plastic waste and general litter can really
detract from the beauty of our city and harm the environment. How do you
envision us reducing this trash?"

You: "I think we could start by organizing community clean-up events where
we engage volunteers to pick up litter and properly dispose of it.

Partner: "I love that. Creating awareness and involving the community in
hands-on efforts to clean up and reduce waste will not only benefit the
environment but also foster a sense of pride and responsibility in our
community. What do you think the benefits of the project will be?"

You: "Reducing plastic waste and litter in public spaces will lead to a
cleaner. It will also have a positive impact on wildlife and the overall health
of our ecosystem.

Partner: "Absolutely. It's so important for us to take an active role in

improving the environment for future generations. Do you have a specific
timeline in mind for this project?"

You: "I think a six-month duration would give us enough time to organize
regular clean-up events, launch awareness campaigns, and evaluate the impact
of our efforts.

Partner: "That sounds like a reasonable timeline. I'm excited about the
potential of this project. Who do you envision being involved in this
initiative?"

You: "I think we should reach out to local community groups, environmental
organizations, schools, and businesses to gather a diverse and enthusiastic
group of volunteers.

Partner: "I completely agree. The more diverse the group, the more
perspectives and talent we can bring to the table. I'm really looking forward to
working with everyone to make a positive impact in our community. Let's get
this project off the ground!"
You: "Absolutely! I am thrilled about the impact we can make together. This
project has the potential to create a tangible difference in our community and
pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
