Adele

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, known simply as Adele, was born on May 5, 1988, in
Tottenham (north of London), England. She is a singer-songwriter and multi-
instrumentalist. She is one of the world's best-selling musical artists, with over 120 million
album and single sales, Adele is the first woman in history to have three singles ("Rolling
in the Deep", "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain") in the top ten of the
Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously, and the first female artist to have two albums and two
singles in the top five of the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Due to
the success of 21, she has several mentions in the Guinness World Records, throughout her
career she has been awarded a total of sixteen Grammys, twelve Brit Awards, an Oscar, a
Golden Globe and an Emmy, among others. Billboard magazine named her artist of the
year in 2011, 2012 and 2016, in 2012, VH1 included her in the fifth position of the 100
greatest women in music.
Adele has been a major contributor to the MusiCares Foundation, a charity founded by the
Grammy Awards for musicians in need. In support of the LGBT community, on June 12,
2016, Adele paid tribute by dedicating her concert in Antwerp, Belgium to the victims of a
nightclub massacre in the U.S. city of Orlando, Florida.
