Underlining the material on a page is quickest,
provided the reading material belongs to you.
• A personal process
• Underline, highlight, or circle major details
• Write notes or marginal comments
When? Why? How?
Storyline. Thesis. Personal tasks. Summary.
Notes. Plans. Among others.
• list only the main ideas as main headings.
• relate all subheadings to the main heading they
follow.
• make sure all the headings in a series fit together
logically; headings are clearly different, that they don’t
cover the same materials.
• make sure that whenever you break down a heading
you have at least two subheadings.
• use whole sentences, phrases or just single words
consistently, as long as the entries convey the
information and are easy to understand.
• indent all items correctly.

1. Unless action is taken, Asia is in grave danger due to global warming.

1.2 Asia is at risk for floods and lesser access to fresh water and food supply.
