Brake resistance is accomplished by parallel connection of 2 brake resistor units. These instructions
replace the resistor instructions attached to the individual brake resistors.

This involves: Parallel connection of connections R1 and R2

Series connection of connectors T1 and T2

To comply with the specified protection classification, it is mandatory necessary

to mount the protection cover on the resistor – see Figure 4. Observe the required
tightening torque of 2.9 Nm.

Procedure:
To connect the brake resistor, monitor the temperature of the brake resistor and comply with the specified protection classification,
proceed as follows:

1. Observe the required cable cross-sections and torques in the technical data of the brake resistors.
- Terminal R1 / R2 / PE 55 kW brake resistor: 16 mm2 / 1.9 Nm, cable 3G16 3x16 mm2 / 6AWG
- Terminal R1 / R2 / PE 22 kW brake resistor: 10 mm2 / 1.2 Nm, cable 3G10 3x10 mm2 / 8AWG

2. R1 and R2:
Connect the converter with the first brake resistor (55 kW) via terminals R1 and R2.
Connect the second brake resistor (55 kW or 22 kW) with the first brake resistor via terminals R1 and R2.
The double series terminals on the first brake resistor are to be used for this (parallel connection) – see Figure 1.

3. PE / Earth:
Connect the first brake resistor (55 kW - PE series terminal see 1. or PE earth screw 1.4 Nm) with the converter (earth plate),
and the second brake resistor (55 kW / 22 kW - PE series terminal see 1. or PE earth screw 1.4 Nm) with the first brake resistor
(55 kW - PE series terminal see 1. or PE earth screw 1.4 Nm) – see Figure 1.

4. If you need to fulfil EMC requirements, please observe the rules for shielding.
See also “Installation Manual, SINAMICS Converter”.

5. Connect the temperature monitor of the brake resistor (terminals T1 and T2 on the brake resistor) to a free digital input on the
converter.
Be sure to connect the temperature switches (opener, “Normally closed”) in series – see Figure 1.
For temperature monitoring use a cable with:
- 0.5 mm2 / 20AWG to 1.5 mm2 / 16AWG solid / finely stranded without end sleeve or
- 0.5 mm2 / 20AWG to 1.0 mm2 / 18AWG finely stranded with insulated end sleeve,
and observe the required tightening torque of 0.5 Nm.

6. First fix all connecting cables to the brake resistors (a) with the enclosed hose clamp and then fit the terminal cover in the brake
resistors over the series terminals (b). Pay regard to correct fitting of the terminal cover and the required tightening torque of
1.4 Nm (c).
For easier fixing of the cable and to avoid damaging the cable, the hose clamp must be opened before fitting.
When fitting, ensure that the cable is inserted so it reaches under the terminal cover (d) – see Figure 2.
If a shielded connecting cable is used, please observe point 4.

Should the provided cable opening in the terminal cover be too small due to the parallel connection, it must be enlarged before
fitting by breaking out the plate at the break-off points provided. For easier detachment, 4 break-off points are provided – see
Figure 3.

7. To activate the external interference function, parametrise the digital input of your choice as a signal source for external
interference (p2106) once the converter is in operation.
