Stanley Martin Lieber, better known as Stan Lee

New York, December 28, 1922 -

Los Angeles, November 12, 2018

Was an American writer, editor, publicist, producer, director, businessman and actor.

Lee was also known for making several appearances in Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

In collaboration with several artists, Stan co-created several superheroes, such as:
Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Black Panther,
X-Men and the Avengers .

Born in Manhattan the son of Jack and Celia Lieber, a Jewish couple immigrants from
Romania.

His father, a tailor, and his mother, a housewife, had another son, Larry.

Since he was little, Lee liked to write. During his adolescence, his dream was to write a
great novel.

He graduated at sixteen and worked writing in newspapers and delivering sandwiches

With the help of his uncle Robbie Solomon, Lee became an assistant at Timely Comics, a
pulp and comic book division that, in the 60s, would evolve into Marvel Comics.

In the late 50s, DC Comics editor Julius Schwartz revived the superhero and experienced
significant success with his updated version of the Flash and the Justice League of America.
In response, editor Martin Goodman assigned Stanley to create a new team of
superheroes.

Lee took Joan's advice, giving his superheroes a flawed humanity.

Before this, superheroes were portrayed as perfect or without serious problems.

However, Stan Lee introduced complex and naturalistic characters who could have bad
tempers and attacks of melancholy and vanity.

Lee moved to California in 1981 to develop Marvel's TV and film properties. He was an
executive producer and made appearances in Marvel film adaptations and other films. He
occasionally returned to comics writing on various Silver Surfer projects.

Lee was, for a short period, president of the entire company, but soon resigned to
become publisher, discovering that being president meant acting more on numbers
and finances, and did not use his ability for the creative process.
Lee died on November 12, 2018, at age 95, in Los Angeles, California. He was taken to
hospital in an emergency medical ambulance earlier in the day and died shortly
afterwards.

15 days after his death, the website TMZ had access to Lee's death certificate and the
cause of his death was revealed: he had cardiac and respiratory arrest.

In conclusion Lee was one of the biggest comic artists and that is why I choose him for this
presentation.
