CLOUD COMPUTING
• Cloud computing is the delivery of different
services through the Internet. These resources
include tools and applications like data storage,
servers, databases, networking, and software.
• Rather than keeping files on a proprietary hard
drive or local storage device, cloud-based
storage makes it possible to save them to a
remote database. As long as an electronic
device has access to the web, it has access to
the data and the software programs to run it.
• Cloud computing is a popular option for people
and businesses for a number of reasons
including cost savings, increased productivity,
speed and efficiency, performance, and
security.
There are broadly two types of clouds one can access :
➢ Public Cloud : A public cloud is a cloud service offered to multiple customers by a cloud
provider. The cloud resources (like servers and storage) are owned and operated by a third-party cloud
service provider and delivered over the Internet. In this type of cloud, the service providers charge the
companies according to their usage. Due to this small organizations can start using the cloud services
and then can expand by acquiring more resources according to their requirements. During expansion,
there is no need for the organization to invest in the infrastructure and can pay just according to what
is being used.
• In a public cloud, you share the same hardware, storage, and network devices with other
organizations that use the same cloud, called cloud “tenants”.
• Microsoft Azure, Google drive, Amazon Cloud Drive, iCloud etc. are examples of public cloud.
➢ Private Cloud : In the private cloud, the cloud computing infrastructure is solely designed
for a single organization and cannot be accessed or shared with other organizations. As compared
to public clouds, the private clouds are more costly as well as secure. In a private cloud, the services
and infrastructure are always maintained on a private network and the hardware and software are
dedicated solely to one organization.
• Private clouds are often used by government agencies, financial institutions, any other mid-to
large-size organizations with business-critical operations seeking enhanced control over their
environment.
• A private cloud, also known as an internal or enterprise cloud, resides on company’s intranet or
hosted data centre where all the data is protected behind a firewall.
Public Cloud vs Private Cloud
A private cloud is a cloud service that is not shared with any other organization. The private cloud user has the
cloud to themselves.
By contrast, a public cloud is a cloud service that shares computing services among different customers, even
though each customer's data and applications running in the cloud remain hidden from other cloud customers.
MULTIMEDIA
If we break the word multimedia into its component
parts ,we get multi -meaning more than one ,and
media-meaning form of communication. Multimedia
can simply be defined as a collection of various media
such as text, audio, animations, images, videos, etc.,
to produce and share information interactively.
Involvement in multimedia in communication not only
makes it more engaging but also implies sophistication
in the production and presentation as compared to
simple media such as text and images. Multiple
combinations of media can be combined to produce
multimedia. Some of them are as follows:
• Animation and audio
• Audio and video
• Text, audio and animation
• Text and audio
• Text : Text is the information present in words and numbers. It is the fundamental
element of digital multimedia. In computers , textual information is saved in text file
formats such as DOC, DOCX, RTF and TXT.
• Graphics and Images : A digital drawing or a digital photograph can be termed
as graphics and image respectively. Graphics refers to illustrations and images refer to
the captured photos etc. Both are still pictures. There is no movement in these types of
pictures. Some of the commonly used image file formats are JPG, BMP, PNG etc.
Sometimes , images need to be improved before using them. It can be done by using
the image editing software. These software applications help in improving the clarity of
images, balancing colour, adjusting brightness levels, cropping, rotating, etc. Different
types of image editing software are available in the market for image improvement,
some of which are Adobe Photoshop, Photo pad, GIMP, MS Paint etc.
• Audio : Audio is a multimedia element which contains sound effects, speech, music or
narration. It is an important part of multimedia since some information can’t be
conveyed using text or pictures e.g. clapping sound, hear beat etc. This type of
information can only be transferred by recording it using devices like microphone,
smartphone, iPad, etc. Some common file formats in which audio files get saved are
MP3, WAV, WMA, MIDI etc.
• Video : Video is a recording of moving visual images, visual effects, and animations,
which are more engaging than audio or text. Digital video is used stream TV programs,
cartoons and movies on the web. Some common video file formats are MPG, MOV, WMV,
MP4, AVI, MKV, VOB , MPEG and Quick Time etc.
• Animation : Animation is the display of sequence of still images to form an illusion of
motion. There are two categories of animation, 2D and 3D. Tom and Jerry is an example
of 2D animation and Ice age movie is an example of 3D animation. Animation plays an
important role in conveying important messages. Adobe Animate, Blender, Maya and
3Ds max are popular software for creating animations. Some common file formats for
saving animations are SWF and GIF.
