Area of a Triangle Lesson Plan

Name: Emma Hale Class Period: 3rd Date: 7/12/22

1. Objectives:
Objective(s) DOK Level State Standard

TSW compute the area of triangles 2 7.G.6

2. Materials:
Item(s) Quantity:

Pencils 1 per student

Calculator 1 per student

Bellringer sheet 1 per student

Worksheet (x3) 1 per student

Guided Notes 1 per student

3. Opening (SET):
What will be done? (narrate the SET):
Today I want to talk about an accident at sea. So what happened in the picture? Just call out the answer. Yes, a sail
ripped. That boat is not going anywhere until the sail is fixed. But how would you get the right amount of supplies to fix
the sail? We are going to answer that question today. So who here has ever been on a boat. Raise your hand. What about
a sailboat? What shape are the sails in? Thinking back to the beginning, what would you need to know in order to fix
the broken sail? How would you figure out how much cloth you need? Yes, you need to determine the area of a triangle.
So the next time you’re stuck with a broken sail, you’ll know what to do.

Statement of Learning (your objective in language that students will understand):

I can compute the area of triangles.

Engagement (Explain how the student will participate in the SET):

Students will answer the questions

Ties to the lives of students (Explain how this topic relevant to their lives):
Students have been on boats or are at least familiar with them from movies.

5. Closure (2-5 min):

Describe the closure [be sure to include restating the objective(s)].
What two things do you need to determine the area of a triangle?

What questions will you ask for the review?

So what is the formula to find the area of a triangle?

What is going to happen next lesson?

Next lesson y’all are going to look at how to find the area of quadrilaterals.

6. Assessment: How will students show that the objective was achieved?
When and how will you formally gauge learning Collect and grade first worksheet
throughout the lesson? (projects, essays, quizzes, tests,
worksheets, etc.)
When and how will you informally gauge learning We do/you do section of the presentation
throughout the lesson? (discussions, questioning, review
activities, worksheets, etc.)

7. Differentiated Instruction:
*Enrichments and interventions should be some change in the content taught, the process in which the material is taught,
or the product produced by the student.
Enrichment: What will you do to challenge your Extra worksheets
higher-achieving students?

Intervention (students struggling or in the tier Walk around and offer assistance, answering any
process/response to intervention): What will you do to questions they have
