Why do you think it is important to us to
know the different types of landforms?
Plain
A plain is a landmass that is flat or gently
rolling and covers many miles. There are
also different types of plains such as
prairies, grasslands, and steppes. It is
relatively flat and does not change much in
elevation within a common area.
Mountain
A mountain is an elevated portion of the
Earth's crust, generally with steep sides that
show significant exposed bedrock.
Hill
A hill is a piece of land that rises higher
than everything surrounding it. It looks like
a little bump in the Earth.
Valley
A valley is an elongated low area often
running between hills or mountains, which
will typically contain a river or stream
running from one end to the other.
Plateau
A plateau is a high land that is flat on top. It
is surrounded by steep rock called cliff.
Volcano
A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a
planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that
allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to
escape from a magma chamber below the
surface.
Island
An island is a body of land surrounded by
water.
Generalization:
What are the seven types of landforms? Pupils will respond
IV. Application
The class will be divided into 4 groups. The teacher will instruct them to draw a
landform that is found in their country and task them to label where is it located. The teacher
will allow them to use any coloring materials. Each group will be given ten minutes to draw
and label it.
The first group to finish will present their work in front of the class. Each group will
be graded based on the criteria presented by the teacher before doing the activity.
V. Evaluation
