Purpose of Assessment:
The key purpose of this assessment is to have students develop skills in:
An additional outcome of this task will be to provide students with some evidence to inform their
decision about taking Extension 2 English in Year 12.
Description of Task:
A) Students will write a 2000 word academic essay on the following question:
Evaluate how your film text paralleled, challenged or offered an alternative view on ONE key value
established in the original text.
To complete this you will need to establish how the original text has represented the value and then compare that
to the way the same value has been represented in the film.
C) VIVA VOCE – students will complete a Viva Voce on their research. This is an in-person
discussion between the student and the markers, where the markers will ask questions
about the work completed. Students will be given the focus questions and have 10 minutes
to make some notes, then they will discuss their work with the markers for a maximum of
15 minutes. The questions will guide the discussion but the teachers may ask clarifying
questions to support student responses. Students will be permitted to have a pen and their
logbooks when preparing and completing the Viva Voce. Laptops will NOT be permitted.
During Term 1 and 2, and the start of Term 3, you will have an indicative 1 period per
fortnight in class to work on your project, supported by activities to help develop your
research and writing skills.
Week 8 you will be required to indicate to your class teacher your selected pairing of texts.
Your audience for the task will be your teachers – so a formal, academic register is
required.
MLA style should be followed for citations in the essay and completion of the reference list.
Your essay must be uploaded into HG Learn (SEQTA) which will include submission
through Turnitin.
