Hon’ble HRD Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” launched a campaign “One Student One Tree” on 20th July. This initiative is in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s idea of a green and healthy environment. As a helping hand to this noble initiative and for making the students socially responsible, all AICTE approved technical institutions were requested to carry out a plantation drive by planting minimum of one tree per student to achieve the target of one crore plants. It was recommended that diverse species of trees should be planted with focus on minimum water consumption in an ecofriendly manner. Also, these trees should have suitable utility in the nearby area. As an incentive for carrying out plantation, Student may be awarded 20 “AICTE Activity Point” as defined in Chapter 6 of AICTE Internship Policy. Institutions were also requested to carry out plantation drive in consultation with the nearest forest department. The Principal Secretaries of Forest Department of all states, Government of India were requested to help institutions with the land for carrying out plantation.
One exclusive portal was developed by students, so that institutions can
submit the data of planted trees along with one picture of plantation drive (preferably group of students with the saplings) on the portal. All Faculty Members, Staff, Administration and Management of the Institutions were also requested to lead by example, by planting at least one tree themselves. More than 30 lakh trees have been planted till 2019. AICTE is committed to take it further and reach the target of 1 crore tree plantation. Best performing institutions recognized by AICTE for the year 2019
