CALA OBJECTIVES: Learners should be able to:

BACKGROUND
• From the studies carried out Religious authorities it has been discovered that the people
of Zimbabwe was also a victim of the scramble and partition of Africa by Europeans
in the 1900s. Therefore, this resulted in the colonization of Zimbabwe and other
Southern African countries.

The CALA has three parts A, B, C and you are obliged to meet the requirements for
each of the objectives

PART A

• Define the following terms


a. Scramble
b. Partition (4)

• List any 3 European countries and the countries they colonized (6)
• Describe the economic, social and political reasons for the scramble and partition of
Southern Africa (20)
• Outline and explain the methods used Europeans to colonies chiefdoms in Southern
Africa/Ways used by Europeans to destroy African chiefdoms (20)

• The research tools to use include google books, textbooks and ICT tools
• List key questions and also acknowledge the sources of information you have used.
• Record notes on the data gathered

• Use the information that you have gathered and presented on the given questions
• (use Google, notes and textbooks)

Part C
• After the presentation, compile a write up and submit for marking.

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESED


• Learners will be assessed on the depth of their research on the information that they
have gathered and presented on the causes of the Scramble and partition of Southern
Africa
• On their ability to analyze the ways used by Europeans to colonise Africans
