Jessica is supported to live independently and has been living

1. Discuss how a midwife may support Jessica (8)
A midwife is a professionally trained nurse for delivering babies
during labour and providing mothercare advice for new parents like Jessica by communicating with her. The midwife can communicate with Jessica using simpler terms (not jargon) to make her understand what she needs to do. A midwife can also help in prenatal care by using visual aids on childbirth and parenting, while using the appropriate tone so Jessica can understand and interpret what the midwife is saying. A midwife will be able to help Jessica as she is a young mother and is not educated on becoming a parent, they would discuss topics on nutrition, breastfeeding and prenatal care. However, midwives can also monitor check-ups and health of both the baby and mother. Midwives can offer support to parents who are struggling financially or mentally. Midwives would also discuss with other health professionals about Jessica in what she needs. Akram is 22 years old and suffers with a mental illness. He was recently admitted to a psychiatric unit after a sudden decline in his condition. He is responding well to treatment. Akram and his family are Muslim, and his parents visit daily. They are concerned that the care he is receiving does not always take account of his religious beliefs.
2. Describe the role of one health professional and one social
care professional who may be involved in caring for Akram when he returns home. (4)
A youth worker as they help the personal, social and educational
growth of people aged 11-25 or Akram could go to a social worker as they will be able to help and find solutions to any problems they might have. A Occupational Therapist as they identify issues people may have in everyday life and also help people out with practical solutions.
Juan is 35 years old. He has mobility problems for 10 years and
uses a wheelchair. Juan lives alone and maintains an independent life with the help of Rose. Rise is a domiciliary carer who visits Juan’s home several times a week. He communicated regularly with friends via social media. 3. Explain two how the domiciliary carer provides care for Juan and how this will help him maintain an independent life (6)
A domiciliary care helps individuals at home to live independently
and do tasks by themselves. They assist with household tasks and other activities to help maintain the quality of life. It is available for people who need a hand in tasks or even personal care. Domiciliary care is for people who want to stay at home and receive the support they need. Juan is using a wheelchair and is living all by himself meaning he needs support in moving around or even going outside to get groceries or anything else. As Rose is visiting Juan’s home she will be able to make Juan independent and also teach or assist him in whatever he is not able to do.
