Materials needed:
• U.S. 15 (10 mm) 16 inch circular needle
• U.S. 13 (9 mm) 16 inch circular needle
• U.S. 11 (8 mm) double pointed needles
• U.S. 9 (5.5 mm) double pointed needles for the flower
• Tapestry needle for attaching the flower
• Super bulky weight yarn (90-108 yards) Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn
used
• Worsted weight yarn for flower (60 yards) Vanna’s Choice yarn used
• 1 1.5 inch button

Gauge: 2.5 stitches = 1 inch

With the U.S. 13 circular needle cast on the number of stitches needed for
the size hat you are making.
33 small (18-19 inch head circumference)
37 medium (20-21 inch head circumference)
41 large (22-23 inch head circumference)

Band:
Round 1: *k1, p1, repeat all around.
Round 2: *p1, k1, repeat all around.
Repeat rounds 1-2 the number of rounds needed for size of hat you are
making: 9 rounds (small) 11 rounds (medium/large)

Hat body:
Round 1: k2tog, knit all stitches to end. (32,
36, 40 sts)
Round 2. *k4, yo, repeat from * all around.
Round 3. *k4, knit yo through the back loop,
repeat from * all around.
(40, 45, 50 sts)

Switch to the U.S. 15 circular needle knit all


stitches in the round until the piece measures:
7 inches (small) 8 inches (medium) 9 inches
(large)

Decrease: size large


Round 1: *k8, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (45 sts)
Round 2: knit (switch to the U.S. 11 double pointed needles)
Round 3: *k3, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (36 sts)
Round 4: *k2, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (27 sts)
Round 5: *k1, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (18 sts)
Round 6: *k2tog, repeat from * all around. (9 sts)
Break yarn, weave through stitches, pull tight and weave in ends.

Decrease: size medium


Round 1: *k7, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (40 sts)
Round 2: knit (switch to the U.S. 11 double pointed needles)
Round 3: *k3, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (32 sts)
Round 4: *k2, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (24 sts)
Round 5: *k1, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (16 sts)
Round 6: *k2tog, repeat from * all around. (8 sts)
Break yarn, weave through stitches, pull tight and weave in ends.

Decrease: size small


Round 1: *k8, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (35 sts)
Round 2: knit (switch to the U.S. 11 double pointed needles)
Round 3: *k3, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (28 sts)
Round 4: *k2, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (21 sts)
Round 5: *k1, k2tog, repeat from * all around. (14 sts)
Round 6: *k2tog, repeat from * all around. (7 sts)
Break yarn, weave through stitches, pull tight and weave in ends.

Flower: make 5 petals


With the U.S. 9 double pointed needles cast
on 6 stitches.
Row 1: *k1, cast 1 on, on right needle (as
shown), k1, cast 1 on, k1, repeat from * once
more. (10 stitches)
Row 2: and all even rows: purl
Row 3: *k1, cast 1 on, k3, cast 1 on, k1,
repeat from * once more.
(14 stitches)

Row 5: k1, cast 1 on, k4, ssk, k2tog, k4, cast 1 on, k1. (14 stitches)
Row 7: k5, ssk, k2tog, k5 (12 stitches)
Row 9: k4, ssk, k2tog, k4 (10 stitches)
Row 11: ssk, k1, ssk, k2tog, k1, k2tog (6 stitches)
Row 13: k1, ssk, k2tog, k1 (4 stitches)

One petal made (don’t bind off), break the yarn leaving a tail to weave in.
Set aside on a spare needle. Make the rest of the petals (5 total).

Note:
When working the last petal leave a longer tail for attaching all the petals
to the hat.

Pull a piece of yarn from the hat through


the base stitches of flower petals (see
photo), weave in all the tails except the
extra long one used for attaching to the
hat.

Place the flower on the hat and attach


the first petal, then overlap each one by
4 half until you get to the last one. This
3 should create a half circle of petals
5 when finished. Numbers 1-5 in the
2 order attached.
