This document outlines the standard operating procedure for first article and random article inspections. It details 16 steps to check various attributes of parts such as markings, dimensions, material type, holes, notches, bends, and finishes to ensure they meet drawing specifications. Inspection results and any non-conformances should be documented in reports, with non-conforming parts held and production notified for rework or rejection. Tolerances referred in the international standard IS 802 part 2 are to be used.

Check the type of material-MS/HT. type of material should be as per drawing 5. Check the length of the piece by measuring tape. Length of the piece should be as per drawing 6. Check the diameter of the hole by vernier 7. Check the hole to hole distance by measuring tape. Hole to hole distance should be as per drawing. 8. Check the back mark of every hole by measuring tape. Back mark should be as per drawing 9. Also check the 50th,100th,……..pieces during fabrication 10. If plan quantity is less than 50 then check the first and last piece 11. Check the notching. Notching should be as per drawing 12. Check the bending by bending gauge. Bending should be 100% 13. Check the heel grinding as per drawing 14. Record all details and make a first article and random article inspection report (see annexure “A”) 15. If any problem found, make a rework/rejection report (see annexure “B”) and hold the material. Also inform to production department and your operation head 16. For tolerances during first/random article inspection use IS 802 part 2 (see annexure “B”) Annexure “A” Annexure “B” Annexure “C”
