Analysis (Teacher discussion)

The teacher will present some effective classroom management strategies.

1. Model to the students how to act in different situations - Make a habit of

demonstrating behavior you want to see, as many studies show that modeling
effectively teaches students how to act in different situations.
2. Establish classroom guidelines - Encourage all students to help you build
classroom expectations and rules.
3. Document the rules - Don’t let your mutually-respected guidelines go forgotten.
4. Refrain from punishing the entire class - Address isolated discipline problems
individually instead of punishing an entire class.
5. Encourage initiative from the class - Promote a growth mindset.
6. Offer praise and rewards - Praise students for jobs well done, as doing so improves
academic and behavioral performance.
7. Use non-verbal communication - Complement words with actions and visual aids
to improve content delivery.
8. Take time to celebrate group effort - Throw an occasional classroom party to
acknowledge students’ hard work, motivating them to keep it up.
9. Let students work in groups - Teamwork can improve efficiency and productivity.
10. Interview students to assess their needs - Interview students who aren’t
academically engaged or displaying pro social behavior to learn how to better
manage them.
11. Address bad behavior quickly - Avoid hesitation when you must address
inappropriate or off-task behavior, especially when a student breaks a documented
rule.
12. Consider peer teaching - Use peer teaching as a classroom management strategy
if you feel your top performers can help engage and educate disruptive and
struggling students.
13. Continuously engage the students - Engaging students in the learning process
increases their attention and focus and moves them to more critical thinking.
14. Assign open-ended projects - Encourage students to tackle open-ended projects.
15. Write group contracts - Help student group work run smoothly and effectively by
writing contracts that contain guidelines and having everyone sign.
Abstraction (question):

 Why is it important to keep the classroom clean and organized? How

does tidy classroom impact students' focus and behavior?

Application (group activity):

 Divide the class into four groups.

 Assign each group a scenario where classroom management is
challenged (e.g., disruptive student, unpreparedness, etc.). )
 Instruct the groups to discuss and select one or more classroom
management strategies that could be effective in addressing the
scenario.
 Provide time for the groups to create a short role-play demonstrating
their selected strategy/strategies.

Generalization:

 By implementing these strategies, you can create a positive and

productive learning environment that supports the academic and
personal growth of your students while minimizing behavior issues.

IV. EVALUATION:
 Ask the student to write down and explain at least two effective classroom
management strategies that they believe contribute to effective classroom
management in ½ sheet of paper.

V. ASSIGNMENT:

 What are the four components of classroom management?
