NEXUS: A PROPOSED CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT

DESIGN CONCEPT
The concept of holistic architecture for a proposed central business district envisions a place where commerce,
culture, and community intersect harmoniously. It aims to create a sustainable, resilient, and people-oriented
space that not only fuels economic activity but also enhances the well-being and social cohesion of its
inhabitants. By embracing this comprehensive approach, the central business district of the future can truly
become a model for urban development that balances economic vitality with social and environmental
responsibility. Also, to create a sense of place and identity for the CBD with a mediterranean style.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
"Architecture should speak of its time and place but yearn for timelessness." - Louis Kahn
This quote captures the idea that architecture should be both innovative and timeless. The proposed central
business district should be a reflection of the city's unique character and culture, while also being forward-
looking and sustainable. It should be a place that people can be proud of for generations to come.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT- is a way of developing that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is about creating a more
socially equitable, environmentally friendly, and economically prosperous space.
 Aesthetic and Architectural enhancement- By considering this, it can create CBDs that are more
aesthetically pleasing and architecturally significant. This can help to create a more attractive and
inviting environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.
 BUILT FORM- it is important to consider the built form of the district. Built form refers to the physical
shape and configuration of the buildings and public spaces in the district. It is important to design a
CBD with a built form that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
 BUILDING CHARACTER- This includes the overall architectural style of the buildings, as well as the
specific design features that give each building its own unique character. The building character of a
CBD can help to create a sense of place and identity.
 CIRCULATION AND ACCESSIBILITY- The circulation and accessibility of a CBD can have a significant
impact on the overall success of the district. A well-designed CBD will be easy for people to get to and
from, and it will be easy for people to move around within the district.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES

 TOURIST DESTINATION- to be able to design a central business district to have a great place to relax and
unwind. Visitors can enjoy a stroll through the CBD's many parks and gardens, or simply sit back and
people-watch the view.
 SAFE SOCIAL GATHERING AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES- to be able to design a central business
district where people feel safe and comfortable gathering in a CBD, it creates a more vibrant and
inviting atmosphere. This can lead to increased business opportunities for businesses in the CBD.
 GREEN-INFRASTRUCTURE- to be able to design a central business district incorporating a green
infrastructure throughout, including trees, rain gardens, and bioswales. These features will help to
improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, and create a more livable environment.
 Human-Centric Design- Prioritizing pedestrian-friendly design by creating walkable streets, ample
greenery, and public spaces that encourage social interaction and recreation. Accessibility and safety
for all, including those with disabilities, should also be fundamental considerations.
 Natural Ventilation and Daylighting- Design buildings with natural ventilation and daylighting strategies
to reduce energy consumption and enhance indoor comfort.
