chocolate cow
special christmas edition

notes
instead of regular decreases, I tend to use invisible
decreases when I create a plush. I recommend that you
use the method of your preference, it will not change the
outcome of the work!
invisible decrease = an alternative method of decreasing,
which makes your decrease stitches more even.
it is very important to count your stitches!
this pattern is written in US terminology.

you ignore this information and
filling use the same size yarn for both
plastic safety eyes in size 10 the main pieces and the details,

mug
with color wintergeen and 4 mm hook
1. magic ring: 6 sc (6)
2. 6 inc (12)
3. (sc, inc) 6 times (18)
4. (2sc, inc) 6 times (24)
5. (3sc, inc) 6 times (30)
6. (4sc, inc) 6 times (36)
7. (5sc, inc) 6 times (42)
8. crochet only into bl: (6sc, inc) 6 times (48)
9. switch back to regular sc (not bl) (7sc, inc) 6 times (54)
10. 54 sc (54)
11. 54 sc (54)
12. (16sc, dec) 3 times (51)
13. 51 sc (51)
14. 51 sc (51)
15. (15sc, dec) 3 times (48)
16. 48 sc (48)
17. (14sc, dec) 3 times (45)
18. 45 sc (45)
19. crochet only into fl: 45 sc (45)
20. switch back to regular sc (not fl) 45 sc (45)
21. 45 sc (45)
22. to make the rim, you will have to go back and find the empty back
loops of row 19! make 45 sc around crocheting into both loops of row 22
and the back loops of row 19! (shown on picture)

finish off and leave a tail!

for the handle, use colors white and red and 3 mm hook, and follow
the pattern. make sure to stuff the piece as you go!

1. starting with red: magic ring: 6 sc (6)

2. 6 inc (12)
3. 12 sc (12)
4. change into white: 12 sc (12)
5. 12 sc (12)
6. 12 sc (12)
7. change into red: 12 sc (12)
8. 12 sc (12)
9. 12 sc (12) ... repeat the pattern between rows 4 and 9 until you
have 4 red and 3 white stripes in total! you will end up with 21
rows!

finish off and leave a long tail!

tip: if you decide to use a 6mm color for the handle instead of a 3mm
like I did, the handle pattern obviously has to be modified since it
would be too bulky when attached to the mug! in that case, I
recommend you to only do 6 sc around and only 15-17 rows!
hot chocolate
with color chocolate and 4 mm hook

1. magic ring: 9 sc (9)

2. ch 1, 9 inc, slip st (18)
3. ch 1, (sc, inc) 9 times, slip st (27)
4. ch 1, (2sc, inc) 9 times, slip st (36)
5. ch 1, (3sc, inc) 9 times, slip st (45)

slip st, and leave a very long tail for sewing! depending on
your yarn, the chocolate piece may be too small for the mug,
in that case, you have to add more rows of ‘ch 1, 45 sc,
slip st’!
cow
head with color nougat and 4 mm hook
1. magic ring: 8 sc (8)
2. 8 inc (16)
3. (sc, inc) 8 times (24)
4. (2sc, inc) 8 times (32)
5. 32 sc (32)
6. 32 sc (32)
7. 32 sc (32)
8. (2sc dec) 8 times (24)
9. (sc, dec) 8 times (16)

insert safety eyes between rows 6 and 7 about 5-6 sts away from
each other!

embroider the nose with red and you can also add blush!

finish it iff with a slip st and leave a long tail for sewing!

two legs with color nougat and 4 mm hook

1. magic ring: 5 sc (6)

2. 5 inc (10)
3. 10 sc (10)

finish it off and leave a long tail!

two ears with 4 mm hook
1. with color red ch 2 and work 5 sc into the second st from
the hook, then fasten it off!
2. repeat this pattern with nougat but instead of fastening
it off, press the two pieces together, and crochet them
together with 5 inc using nougat!

finish off your work, pinch the top part together and sew them
so it will have a drop shape. leave a long tail so you can sew
them on the head, around 2-3 sts to the left/right from the
eyes!

two horns with color chocolate and 4 mm

hook
insert your hook right above the ears and make 2 bobble
sts!
peppermint candy
make two with colors red and white and 3mm hook

with color white: ch 3, then connect color red and ch a fourth one!
still using color red, wrap the yarn around your hook and insert it in
the farthest chain (first chain). we are going to create a double
crochet, but with two different colors: yarn over and pull the yarn
through the ch (now you have 3 loops on your hook), yarn over and
pull the yarn through 2 loops, now you are left with 2 loops on your
hook. grab your white color yarn, yarn over an pull it through the two
remaining loops completing the dc.
you need to repeat this technique 12 more times, but always pay
attention to your colors! since for the first dc we used white mainly,
for the next, the main color is going to be the red. for the 3rd dc, we
are using the white again, for the 4th the red again and so on.

whipped cream
with color white (6mm) and 4mm hook

1. ch 25
2. starting from the second ch:
sc
2hdc into the same st
slip st
repeat this pattern of 3 sts 5 more times to end up with 6 frills in total!
leave a long tail when finishing off, curl the piece up and sew it on the top
of the cow’s head!

as you may have noticed, my plush does not have a whipped cream on top! I
ended up not adding my cream piece, but decided to still incude the pattern!
assembly
1. first, we have to sew the cow parts on the hot chocolate
piece! stuff the head and sew it on the middle of the
chocolate! the two legs are also stuffed and sewn on the
chocolate in front of the head in the line of the horns! add the
legs as close to the cow’s face as possible to make it cute!

2. secondly we have to sew the chocolate piece (with the cow)

in the mug! when we were making the rim of the mug, the
last row of sc is a little longer than usual, since we had to
crochet into 3 loops at once! these long sts are perfect,
because we can use them to attach the chocolate!

before sewing add a little stuffing, and add more stuffing as

you go on with the assembly! at the end do not forget to stuff
it fully before closing!
3. now we have to attach the handle. on my plush, the
top of handle is attached right below the rim, and the
bottom of the handle is on rows 7-8-9 of the mug! from
side view, the handle is in the very middle of the mug!
tip: if you went with the tripod candycane looking design,
try to sew the handle in a way that the color changes are
on the back!

4. lastly, sew on the candies and add a little bow below

the rim! if you have a whipped cream piece you also have
to add it on top of the head!
congratulations
