Configure stairs

Configure stair runs, landings, and supports to


meet the needs of your projects. Then configure
multi-story stairs to expedite the process of
creating stairs for multi-story buildings.

The completed exercise

1. Open the exercise file stairs.rvt.

2. Select the stair on the left and click
Edit Type in the Properties palette.

3. In the Type Properties dialog, click in


the Run Type field and click the More
button.

4. In the Type Properties dialog for the
run, click Duplicate and Name the new
type 2ʺ Tread 1ʺ Nosing. Then click OK.

5. Deselect the Riser option and then
click OK.

6. Back in the Type Properties dialog for


the stair, set the Supports parameters
as shown in the image:
a. Right Support: None
b. Left Support: None
c. Middle Supple: Enable
d. Middle Support Type: Carriage –
2ʺ Width
e. Middle Support Number: 2

7. Open the exercise file multi-
story_stairs.rvt.

8. Select the stair on level 1 and then click


Select Levels on the contextual ribbon
tab.

9. With Connect Levels selected on the
contextual ribbon tab, select levels 3-6
in the drawing area. Then click the
green check mark button to complete
the multi-story stair.
