Here are some basic concepts that every child studying would be expected to know.
NUMBERS pi RADIUS
SQUARED NUMBER:
A number multiplied by itself.
e.g. 3x3 = 9 - You would write squared as 3² Components
of a circle DIAMETER
CUBED NUMBER:
A number multiplied by itself three times. CIRCUMFERENCE
e.g. 3x3x3 = 27 - You would write 3 cubed as 3³ is a mathematical constant that is the
ratio of a circle's circumference to its
PRIME NUMBER: diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159.
A number divisible by itself and 1 The number πappears in many formulae
e.g. 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 across mathematics and physics.
CALCULATING CALCULATING
AREA VOLUME
AREA OF A SQUARE
OR RECTANGLE:
Multiply one side by PYRAMID:
AREA OF A CIRCLE: another. Length x width x height
r² (r = radius of the circle) PRISM:
divided by 3.
Half base x height x length.
AREA OF A TRIANGLE: CUBE:
Half length of base x Multiplying the value of the
height. edge with itself three times.
ORDERING
BODMAS is an acronym and a way of remembering the rules
for attempting a calculation. It stands for:
OPERATIONS
You should start with any numbers in brackets, ORDERS DIVISION MULTIPLI- SUB-
