A) Considering Pieces

Consider two pieces to which you connect.


What perceptive points could you make regarding how each creator conveyed their messages?

Tip 1: Aim to avoid literal or overly simple interpretations.


● The filmmaker used smoke from the gun to show the gun had been fired. There was also
smoke in the poster.
● The poet used a sad tone to make the listener feel sad about war. The film also felt
melancholic.

Tip 2: While using specific tools in your comparisons, make sure you can show how they are
used.
● The angle of [the photo], by pointing upward from the ground, is trying to make the
subject look tough, while the composition of the poster…
● By using enjambment in her poem, she attempts to draw the reader’s attention to…

Tip 3: Avoid comparing pieces where the comparative elements are different.
● The film had music, which contributed to the atmosphere by… The poem being a text,
however, had no music.
