 MASK ON YOUR FACE OR AROUND YOUR NECK
 MASK PLACED INSIDE FOOT POCKET OF A FIN WHEN NOT IN USE
 SNORKEL OR REGULATOR IN YOUR MOUTH ON THE SURFACE AT ALL TIMES
 WEIGHTBELTS DONE UP WHEN NOT IN USE
 WEIGHTBELTS ARE NOT TO BE PUT IN THE TUBS
 FINS TO BE PLACED ON TOP OF THE TUB
 DUST CAP TO BE DRIED AND PLACED ON THE REGULATOR FIRST STAGE AFTER USE
 YOU ARE NOT TO REMAIN UNDERWATER WITHOUT AN INSTRUCTOR OR DIVEMASTER PRESENT
 STAY IN THE ALLOCATED LANES IN THE POOL
 DON’T SWIM THROUGH OTHER SCUBA CLASSES
 BUDDY CHECKS TO BE DONE AT THE START OF EACH DIVE
 SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY! HALF OF SCUBA-RELATED ACCIDENTS OCCUR BETWEEN GETTING OUT
OF THE CAR AND MAKING A DESCENT!

Forks in the road - Rent or Buy – John’s advice


 Purchase small ticket items first – mask, snorkel, booties, fins, weights, (weight belt)
 Club members half-price hire
 Wetsuit – will last at least 200 dives or more with proper care and some minor repairs
 BCD or Wing – with integrated weight system, no need for weight-belt
 Gauges – combo with small computer and separate compass OR SPG and dive computer
 Regulators – 1st, 2nd and AAS
 Tank – at least 15 dives per year
 Dive all year round – neoprene socks, internal thermals, neoprene vests, thicker 9mm hood,
4th element gloves
 Then what?
o Fanatical Recreational – Lots of diving, twin tanks or Sidemount, Drysuit
o Technical – Diving deeper than 40 metres, Decompression dives
o Cave diver – More tanks, training in Mt Gambier, SA
o Professional, Commercial
