Knowledge Learning Goal:

How can we define what knowledge is? Well, our communications program,

defines it as “analyzing beliefs, values, and assumptions in personal and professional

life”. For my definition what comes to mind is how you absorb the information given to

you and you use that in the future or present. What I mean by this is that you can

receive any kind of knowledge anywhere you go, from a word you read or see, to an

object, and even about a person we take the knowledge and use it to our advantage

daily.

I was once asked to write about knowledge before in our sophomore seminar

class and I feel like in the two-ish years since I last took that class, I have gained more

experience in building upon this learning goal. With that in my last essay about this, I

wrote how while I have been here at UW-Parkside in the communications program I

have indeed used this learning goal in my classes and my assignments. One example

of when I used this learning goal: knowledge is that in almost all my communications

classes, we have been asked to write an essay on whatever topic is involved in

communications. If we want to do good on our assignment or essay, we usually have to

do research and build our knowledge of the topic and because of that, I can complete

these essays to the best of my abilities and also build my skills in this learning goal of
knowledge. I have also been able to use this learning goal in my graphic design major

through all my classes too. One class was when I took Interactive Design where we

were asked to learn how to code and create a website from that, we were shown the

app called Atom and spent the whole semester building our knowledge with each day.

Lastly, even now I am using my knowledge from my past assignments to complete this

assignment now.

To move on to the next point, I have always thought that I have used this learning

goal knowledge in my personal and professional life, and I also feel like I will continue to

do so in the future. One example of a way where I have used this in my personal life is

that no matter what we use knowledge always on a day-to-day basis and we continue to

do so because we need knowledge to be able to understand everything that may go

around us. Each type of new information or endeavor may come and give us more

opportunities to expand our way of knowledge. I have also used this learning goal in my

professional life, when I first started at Kwik Trip, I had to put my knowledge to the test

and also build it up from there. Every day that I go to work I build upon my knowledge

and if I don’t know something I ask and learn more from it.

When thinking about the future I feel like I would want to know all there is to know

about how I can put this learning goal to any part of my life whether it’s my personal or

professional life. I would just like to be able to understand whatever kind of information

that I come across at any time.
