Cabinet of the Philippines

The Cabinet of the Philippines (Filipino: Gabinete ng Pilipinas, usually referred t o as t he Cabinet or Gabinete) consist s of t he heads of t he largest part
of t he execut ive branch of t he nat ional government of t he Philippines. Current ly, it includes t he secret aries of 22 execut ive depart ment s and t he heads
of ot her several ot her minor agencies and offices t hat are subordinat e t o t he president of t he Philippines.

The cabinet secret aries are t asked t o advise t he president on t he different affairs of t he st at e like agricult ure, budget , energy, finance, educat ion, social
welfare, nat ional defense, foreign policy, and t he like.

They are nominat ed by t he president and t hen present ed t o t he Commission on Appoint ment s, a body of t he Congress of t he Philippines t hat confirms all
appoint ment s made by t he president , for confirmat ion or reject ion. If t he president ial appoint ees are approved, t hey are sworn int o office, receive t he t it le
"Secret ary", and begin t o funct ion t heir dut ies.

Constitutional and legal basis

Appointment
Art icle 7, Sect ion 16 of t he Const it ut ion of t he Philippines says t hat t he President

shall nominate and, with the consent of the Commission on Appointments, appoint the heads of the executive departments,
ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, or officers of the armed forces from the rank of colonel or naval captain, and other
officers whose appointments are vested in him in this Constitution. He shall also appoint all other officers of the Government whose
appointments are not otherwise provided for by law, and those whom he may be authorized by law to appoint. The Congress may, by
law, vest the appointment of other officers lower in rank in the President alone, in the courts, or in the heads of departments, agencies,
commissions, or boards.

Cabinet and cabinet-level officials


The people list ed below form t he cabinet and are t he heads of t he current execut ive depart ment s of t he Philippines. The officials under t hese
depart ment s are appoint ed wit h t he rank of Secret ary. Appoint ed officials who are not confirmed by t he Commission on Appoint ment s, as required by law,
will t ake t he office under act ing capacit y, or as officer-in-charge, depending on t he appoint ment released and approved by t he President . The current
st ruct ure of t he Cabinet of t he Philippines are based on t he execut ive orders reorganizing t he offices under it s jurisdict ion, given t he fact t hat t he
Const it ut ion allows execut ive privileges t o reorganize it s st ruct ure.

Official Filipino names of t he agencies were derived from Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino and Depart ment of Budget and Management .[1][2]
