Selected Millennium Development Goals:

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

3. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Manos Unidas supports projects that promote the right to a healthy life for all human
beings. Poor health is not only a consequence of poverty, but can be one of its causes.

What do they do?


- They prevent disease through the creation, equipping and improvement of health
infrastructures.
- They promote vaccination and preventive medicine campaigns.
- They train community health workers to raise awareness of the importance of
proper nutrition and hygiene for health.
- Promote maternal and child care, both prenatal and postnatal, to reduce maternal
mortality and infant mortality.
- Reinforce the competent authorities in the prevention and control of endemic
diseases.

Knowledge of the Millennium Development Goals is essential for anyone who is studying,
not only at university, but from elementary to higher education. Specifically in the Bachelor
of Medicine, they are basic to recognize where health efforts are directed in the world and
to be able to contribute with our knowledge and professional work towards them, this
makes a society and a world directed towards the same goal and a better life for all.
