CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
INTRODUCTION

Research methodology is the specific procedures or techniques used to identify, select, process,
and analyze information about a topic. In a research paper, the methodology selection allows the
reader to critically evaluate a study’s overall validity and reliability. The purpose of this chapter
is to design the methodology of the research approach through mixed types of research
techniques. The research approach also supports the research on how to come across the research
result findings. In this chapter, the general design of the research and the methods used for data
collection are explained in detail.

TITLE OF THE STUDY

A study on the influence of peer group on academic performance, behavior and life style
changes of youth with reference to St. Thomas college Ranny.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Peer groups can significantly impact adolescents in various aspects. Academically, positive peer
influence can foster a conducive learning environment, while negative influences may lead to
distractions and lower academic performance. Behaviorally, adolescents often adopt the norms
and values of their peer group, influencing their choices and actions. Additionally, lifestyle
changes, such as preferences in leisure activities and social habits, are often shaped by peer
interactions during this developmental stage.

Peer groups play a crucial role in shaping adolescents’ academic performance, behavior, and
lifestyle. Many studies emphasize the impact of peer influence on academic achievement, with
positive peer relationships correlating with better academic outcomes. Additionally, peer
pressure can contribute to behavioral changes, both positive and negative, affecting adolescents’
choices in academics and daily life.

The peer group has a significant impact on adolescents' academic performance, behavior, and
lifestyle. Studies show that positive peer relationships can enhance academic motivation and
achievement, while negative influences may lead to academic decline. Additionally, peer
interactions play a crucial role in shaping behavior, with adolescents often conforming to peer
norms. Lifestyle changes, including substance use and risky behaviors, can also be influenced by
peer dynamics. A comprehensive review of the literature on this topic offers valuable insights
into understanding the multifaceted effects of peer influence on adolescents.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of the study is to determine how peer communication shapes academic success,
influences behavioral patterns, and accelerates student change. life environment
