Detailed Lesson Plan on Angle of Elevation and Angle of Depression

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. define angle of elevation and angle of depression;
b. differentiate angle of elevation and angle of depression;
c. Solve real-life problems involving angle of elevation and angle of
depression.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities

1. Greetings
Good day, class! Good day, Ma’am!

2. Prayer A student will lead the prayer

3. Presentation of Classroom Rules

Before we begin our class I have here

some rules that you should remember.
 Raise your right hand if you have
questions.
 Do not answer in chorus.
 Do not answer if you are not asked
 Listen attentively and participate.

Am I understood? “Yes, ma’am.”

B. Review
Last meeting, we discuss about
trigonometric ratios of special angles.
Given the triangle ABC.
Class, what is sin30° angle A? “Ma’am, sin30° is equal to ½”
Yes, it is ½. How about cos30° angle A?? “Ma’am, cos30° is √ 3/2.
Excellent!
Do you have questions regarding our last “None ma’am”
topic?

C. Motivation

Class, are you all familiar with NBA? “Yes ma’am”

Okay. So now, I will show you a picture. I
want you to observe it thoroughly.

Class, what did you observe with the “Ma’am.”

picture?
“I have observed that the fans are
Yes ____________? having fun watching the game.”

What else? “I have observed that the NBA

Yes_______? players are all focused on their
game.”

How about you, _____? What do you “I assume that they feel
think the players would feel upon looking overwhelmed upon seeing so much
to their fans? support from their fans.”
Class, try to think of it. At the moment
when fans are looking at the court or on
the game, with respect to their horizontal
line of sight, is there an angle formed?
“There is, ma’am.”
How about when the NBA players are
looking at their fans with respect to their
horizontal line of sight, is there an angle
formed?
“Still there is, ma’am.”

D. Presentation of New Lesson

Class, for today’s lesson we have angle of

elevation and angle of depression.

But before we begin our discussion, let

us know first the following objectives for
today’s lesson.

May I call someone to read the

objectives?
a. define angle of elevation
and angle of depression;
b. differentiate angle of
elevation and angle of
depression;
c. Solve real-life problems
involving angle of
elevation and angle of

E. Lesson Proper

But before anything else, we will define

first some terms that may be unfamiliar
to you. Since we can encounter these
terms along with our discussion,
understanding it is necessary to do.
Now. The terms that I am referring to are
ELEVATION, DEPRESSION and the LINE
OF SIGHT.

Now, when you heard the word elevation,

what comes into your mind?

What is it? “Ma’am.”

Yes, __________?
“When I heard a word elevation, it
has something to do with a height
Very good. Elevation is about the height that is above me ma’am.”
above the given level.
How about the word depression?
Anybody from the class?
“Ma’am.”
Yes, __________?
“Ma’am, since elevation is about
height above the given level, I think
depression is about the height below
That’s good. Depression is to make or the given level.”
become less in amount, intensity, or
degree.
How about the LINE OF SIGHT? Any
volunteer?
“Ma’am.”
Yes, __________?
“Ma’am, I think line of sight refers to
something that get the eyes of a
person or depending on what
Very good. Line of sight is a line from an he/she is looking at.”
observer’s eye to a distant point.

1. Activity

I guess, you are now ready for our

activity. I will be flashing a picture on the
screen. What I want you to do is
determine whether it is an angle of
elevation or angle of depression. Am I
understood?
“Yes, ma’am.”
Very good. Let’s begin.

Instruction: State whether it is Angle of

Elevation or Angle of Depression

give yourself a big round applause since
you were able to determine what angle
represents in each illustration.

2. Analysis

At this moment, I will flash another

illustration on screen and I want you to
observe it thoroughly because I will be
asking questions later. I will be giving
only 3 minutes to observe the
illustration, am I clear?

Very good. So, here’s the illustration.

“Yes, ma’am.”

Class, what do you observe about the

illustration?

Yes, _________?
“I ma’am.”
Thank you. What else?
“I observed that there are multiple
Yes, _________? angles shown on screen, ma’am.”

“I ma’am.”
Thank you. That’s a great observation.
Let’s proceed with another question. “Ma’am, I observed that the line of

volunteer to come in front.
Yes, _________?

Excellent! “I ma’am.”

Now, based on the illustration, how will “The angle of elevation on the

Anybody from the class?

Yes, __________? “I ma’am.”

Excellent! “Based on the given illustration

the given illustration. “In each illustration ma’am, angle B
would be the angle of depression.”
Okay. Go ahead and share your idea to
the class.

“Ma’am, let me try.”

That’s right. “In my own opinion, angle of

other side, angle of depression is an
angle from the horizontal line of sight of
the observer to the object below.

Are there any observations? Anybody

from the class?

Yes, __________?

That’s a good observation. So, what do

you think is the reason of their “Ma’am.”

math lessons.

Class, what is the angle called when the

looking at the object above? “None ma’am.”

Very good. How about the angle which

the horizontal line of sight of the
observer is looking at the object below?

Very good, class. “Angle of Elevation, ma’am.”

Now, back from your previous topics,

what mathematical concept we can use
to solve angle of elevation and angle of “It is angle of depression, ma’am.”

That is right.

Now, do you think angle of elevation and

depression is useful and applicable in “Ma’am, I think in angle of elevation

trigonometric ratios.”
Okay. But in what situation we can apply
this in real life?

class.
(Answer may vary)
Is there any question, clarification,
reaction, and additional information?

4. Application

Since, there is no more question. Let’s

have an another activity. This activity
will help you to deepen your “None so far, ma’am.”
understanding with regard to this topic.
This activity is called “LOOK UP, LOOK
UP”. Now, I want you to do is to read and
analyze the problem that will be flashed
on screen. Then, the next step you will
do is to solve it. I will be giving you 5
minutes to finish answering. And later I
will randomly call a student to present
the answer.
