Here are some major key points about
these stages:
Pre-reading Stage:

preparing students for
reading by developing their
pre-literacy skills.

exposure to letters, sounds,
and vocabulary through
songs, rhymes, and games.

language skills are

or beginning stage, this phase

correspondence, sight words,
and basic decoding strategies.
 Simple, predictable texts with
repetitive patterns are often
used to build confidence and
fluency.
Transitional Stage:

develop more advanced
decoding skills and expand their
vocabulary.

phonics rules and strategies for
figuring out unfamiliar words.
 Reading comprehension

skills and vocabulary to read

ideas, inferencing, and
analyzing texts.

complexity to enhance their
comprehension abilities.

thinking skills and deeper
comprehension.

level reading activities such as
analyzing themes, evaluating
arguments, and synthesizing
information from multiple
sources.
 They learn to think critically
about the content, make
connections across texts, and
apply their understanding to
real-world contexts.
Independent Reading Stage:

become independent readers
who can select and
comprehend texts on their
own.
 They continue to expand their
reading interests and develop
a lifelong love of reading.
