LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 2

(March 04, 2024 W5 D1)

I. Objectives
 Learners will be able to visualize similar fractions using a group of objects and a
number line.
 Learners will develop confidence in their ability to work with similar fractions.
 Learners will be able to read and write similar fractions accurately.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Visualizing and Writing Similar Fractions
 References: Math textbook, educational websites
 Materials: Fraction manipulatives (e.g., fraction circles, fraction bars), whiteboard,
markers, worksheets

A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greeting
3. Checking of Attendance
B. Priming
1. Recall: Review previous lessons on fractions and their basic concepts.
2. Motivation: Share real-world examples where understanding fractions is important, such
as dividing a pizza or measuring ingredients for a recipe.
C. Activity
1. Introduction (10 minutes):
 Present the concept of similar fractions, explaining that they represent the same
portion of a whole but may have different numerators and denominators.
 Use fraction manipulatives to demonstrate similar fractions with different
representations (e.g., 1/2 and 2/4).
 Show how to visualize similar fractions using a group of objects and a number
line.
2. Guided Practice (15 minutes):
 Divide the class into small groups.
 Distribute fraction manipulatives and ask each group to represent similar fractions
using the manipulatives.
 Have each group share their representations with the class and explain how they
visualized the fractions.

3. Independent Practice (20 minutes):

 Distribute worksheets with exercises involving similar fractions.
 Instruct students to write down the similar fractions and visualize them using both
a group of objects and a number line.
 Circulate the room to provide assistance and guidance as needed.
D. Analysis
1. Review (10 minutes):
 Have students present their solutions to the worksheet exercises.
 Address any misconceptions and reinforce key concepts as necessary.

E. Abstraction/ Generalization:
 Similar fractions represent the same portion of a whole but may have different
numerators and denominators. Visualizing similar fractions using fraction manipulatives,
groups of objects, and number lines helps deepen understanding.
F. Application
 Assign homework that involves identifying and visualizing similar fractions in real-world
contexts, such as recipes or measurement tasks.
 Encourage students to continue practicing with fraction manipulatives and number lines
to strengthen their understanding of similar fractions.
