EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Psychological-Related Services Interview

As a Psychology practitioners in the making, challenges due to pandemic has

presented, not only for students, but also for the current professional practitioners in
the field of Psychology. They have been especially vulnerable to the changes due to
the unexpected modification in the Counseling Psychology. We gathered a special
interview with one of the respected volunteers in the field of Psychology about their
experiences providing counseling or any psychology-related services during the
pandemic and how they cope up for the past 2 years.

The counseling during pandemic is unexpectedly challenging, however, obviously we

know that psychology profession is a responsibility and it’s a duty for a professional
practitioner to continue the practice. That is why, being knowledgeable is needed and also
flexible. Barriers were risen during the pandemic, but that is not a reason to stop providing the
service, there are lot of alternative were given to continue the practice. New technology were
introduced, and became beneficial for everyone especially for providing a help to anyone who
are needed. There are three basic usual concerns of the clients/students during this time
which are the longing for affection of the clients to their relatives and family,
adjustment of the students and financial stability because of job loss that people
experienced during the pandemic. Furthermore, providing psychological evaluation
from counselors became a primordial challenges. They barely see their clients actions,
that result to difficulty to observe better and hardly to process with the testing. The
confidentiality is also at risk, due to the unsecured places, the ethics of psychology is
being compromised.

Stigmas, and misconceptions in Psychology were always there, that is why the
Governments of every country should focus with this department. In the Philippines,
we are using western approaches in all references. Strengthening cultural counseling
session should be introduced for Filipinos. Bring Psychology to every people,
introduce the importance of Psychology and everyone should have access to it, even
to remote sites. Free counseling sessions for every barangays, and bring psychology
learning to practice. Government should help the Department of Psychology to make
a public policy and help people to encourage to get involved in decisions formulated
regarding to this department.

Despite of all this challenges faced by the professionals, they are being innovative by
making every action viable to ensure that every individual whose needed are given a
helping hand. Social media are used to make a public awareness and provide free
seminars online.

Due to this interview we saw the realistic view of Psychology and why it should be
taken seriously. As a future practitioner in this field, we’ll continue to be inspired, so
that in the future, we can also become a light for everyone.
