1.0 SCOPE
This document is intended to outline the procedure for carrying out pipeline centerline alignment survey for
the corridor in which the above pipelines are to be installed. The objectives of the pipeline route alignment
survey are as follows:
a. To collect information about the existing facilities, identify crossings and other details along pipeline
corridor.
b. To create individual drawings for proposed crossings.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Manager - Shall report to Head Office Project coordinator,
Client & PMC.
- Shall be responsible for control, supervision and
direction for implementation and execution of
construction plans using calibrated measuring and
test equipment’s.
Surveyor - Shall report to Project Manager.

- Preparation of schedule addressing specific issues
and characteristics of each spread.
- Generates reports and records data .

Checks and verifies the activity
HSE Officer - Reports to Site Project Manager.

- Manages the implementation of all safety
requirements during operations.
5.0 METHODOLOGY
5.1 EQUIPMENT

• Ranging Rod
• 5 Mtrs Staff-steel
5.2 PRE-CONSTRUCTION SURVEY
As a part of pre-construction survey to be carried out prior to start of the construction activities, based on
the Approved for Construction (AFC) Alignment Sheet issued by PJPL / VCS to the Contractor, the
pipeline trench center line, the extent of the ROU shall be identified and marked using the following

6.2.1 The Intermediate Points (IPs) and Turning points (TPs) shown in the AFC alignment sheet shall be
physically located and marked using theodolite and ranging rod.
6.2.2 Wooden pegs shall be fixed at turning points and at 100 Mtrs. on either side of ROW.
6.2.3 Center line of pipeline shall be demarcated by stacking of wooden pegs at an interval of maximum
100 Mtrs for straight-line sections and maximum 10 Mtrs for horizontal bends and turning points.
6.2.4 Markers in the form of wooden pegs shall be placed on the reference line be at a distance of max 100 Mtrs
for straight line section maximum 10 Mtrs for horizontal bend.
5.3 STAKING OF PIPELINE ROUTE

In addition, the Contractor shall stake wooden pegs at a regular interval of 100 meters minimum duly
marked for easy identification with name of pipeline, progressive pipeline chainage with yellow paint on
base color of red. The staking shall be on the edge of ROU.
The markers are also to be installed at every turning point, and on both sides of all road, river, rail and canal
crossing etc.
5.4 BENCH MARKS

Benchmarks have been installed by PJPL designated survey agency agency as part of route alignment
survey. Using such bench marks, temporary bench marks shall be established at every 5 Kms preferably on
some permanent structure in close vicinity to the pipeline ROU. The bench mark should be painted and
marked for easy identification as in the case of marker stone.
6.0 HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

The approved procedure for health, safety and environment shall be followed during execution.
1 PPE is a must in this activity.

2 All Measuring & Test Equipment used must be well maintained.
The control of Health, Safety and Environment hazards shall be governed by documents viz. First Aid
Practices, Environment Control Procedure and Occupational Health and safety practices.
