Problem Set No. 1
Problem Set No. 1
NAME:
SECTION:
1. The current in an electric lamp is 5A. What is the quantity of electricity flows towards the
filament in 6 minutes? 1800 C
2. A 75 watts bulb draws a 680 mA current. How much time will be required to pass a 300
C charge through the bulb? 7.35 mins
3. What is the potential difference between two points if it requires 220 micro joules to
move a 10 micro coulomb charge from one point to the other? 22V
4. A sample of copper wire has a resistance of 50 ohms at 10 degree Celsius. What is the
maximum operating temperature if the resistance of the wire is to increase by at most 10
percent? 34.45 degree Celsius
5. We have two resistor wound with round copper wire. The length and the diameter of the
first wire are Land A and those of the second wire are 0.25L and 0.5A. Determine the
ratios of currents for the two resistors if they are connected across the same voltage
source. 0.5
6. How much current will flow through a 2 ohm resistor connected in series with a 4 ohm
resistor, and the combination connected across a 12 V source? What is the voltage across
each resistor? 2A, 4V and 8V
7. A battery has an internal resistance of 0.5 ohms and has an open circuit voltage of 20V.
The battery supplies a 2 ohms load. Calculate for the voltage in 2 ohms load and voltage
loss in the internal resistance. Note: internal resistance of a battery is simply a resistance
of battery, in circuit diagram, it is a resistance connected in series with the battery. 2
ohms load = 16V, internal resistance = 4V
8. Find the value of a resistor with the following color codes: Orange, Yellow, Red, Gold.
3.4 ohms
9. Three resistors of 10, 12 and “x” ohms, respectively are connected in parallel across a
constant current source of 8 A. Determine “x” if the resistor draws 2.5 A. 12 ohms
10. A 20 ohms and 10 ohms resistor are connected in parallel and a 5 ohms resistor is
connected in series with the parallel combination. The circuit is connected across a 48 V
source with an internal resistance of 0.2 ohms. Calculate the current through a 5 ohms
resistor. 4.04 A
11. The lead batteries “A” and “B” are connected in parallel. “A” has an open circuit voltage
of 12 V and an internal resistance of 0.2 ohm. Battery “B” has an open circuit voltage of
12.2 V and an internal resistance of 0.3 ohm. The two batteries together deliver power to
a 0.5 ohm power resistor. Neglecting effects of temperature, how much current is
contributed by battery “A”? 12.85 A
12. A load of 10 ohms was connected to a 12 volt battery. The current drawn was 1.18 A.
What is the internal resistance of the battery? 0.1695 ohms
13. Find the voltage and current for each resistor. Use any method of circuit analysis you
prefer.
