ABSTRACT

The method of divisibility test of seven is aimed at saving time when

diving numbers by seven using a simple and easy formular. The
formular used subtracts the original number with specific and different
multiples of seven. As the number proceeds to be subtracted it
decreases in every space since the zero at the end is ignored.

We have used many numbers to test the divisibility test of seven both
big and small numbers and concluded the method is applicable.

The method can therefore be used by students when calculating

different numbers.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would wish to acknowledge God for giving me the chance to be alive

today. Second to my parents. Also my teachers Mr. Wanyoike and Mr.
Chichole who guided me in the project. Also my classmates for their
moral support. May god bless them all.
CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

A divisibility test is amethod used to test whether a number is divisible

by any other number without having to divide the number. Divisibility
tests do not require one to divide a number in full operation but to use
the tests. Dividibility tests in detecting whether a number can be
didived by another number using a simple method. On the divisibility
test of seven there is a simple and easy method which can be used to
test if a number is divisible by seven. Then seven is an odd number and
also a prime number which lies between 6 and 8.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

A friend of mine who claims to be a scientiscts one day tried to

convience me that science is better than maths. He claimed that
science is best and it proves all conclusions which it comes about with.
Regardless of mathematics which does not completely prove its
conclusions and thus it leaves behind gaps. I asked him about gaps and
informed me that maths have invented the divisibility tests of
2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10 and 11 but not yet that of 7. This made me to want to
be a mathematician and do research on the divisibility test of 7.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS

i. Fill a gap left behind in the divisibility tests

ii. Motivate fellow learners that mathematics is easy and they
should have a positive attitude towards it.
iii. Make it easy to learners when dividing different numbers
especially big ones.
RELEVANCE/ SIGNIFICANCE
This formular helps students to note easily where a number is
divisible by seven or not.it helps sharpen the mind of learners and
improve their speed.

LIMITATIONS

1. It is not applicable to students who do not know the multiples of

seven from one to ten.
2. Subtraction must be done keenly.
ASSUMPTION
Not applicable to learners of lower classes
CHAPTER TWO
LITERASTURE REVIEW
The history of divisibility tests dates back to atlest 500CE when
divisibility for 7 was included in the Babylonian talmod since then
methods that provide divisibility tests for all positive integers have
been discovered and rediscovered by a wide population of
mathematicians and mathematical enthusiast. Many divisibility
tests have been discovered and proved by different
mathematicians over years.
CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY
APPARATUS
1. A pen
2. A piece of paper
3. Calculator

Procedure
1. Write down the given number
2. Consider the last digit and find out all the multiples of seven
which end ends with a same number
3. Subtract the number given with the multiple of sevn which
you have got.
4. Ignore the last zeros which and again consider the last
number which is not a zero. Follow the same procedure until
at long last you get zeros or a number which is not divisible
by seven.
5. If the last number gotten after subtraction are zeros, arrange
all the numbers multiplied by seven in the multiples used
from the last to the first and multiply them with seven to
confirm whether you will get the initial number.

OBSERVATION
If the last digits gotten after subtraction are zeros the
number is divisible by seven and if the last number gotten is
a whole number which is not a zero and is not divisible by
seven then the whole number given is nt divisible by seven.
Variables
Multiples of seven
The number to be tested.
CHAPTER FOUR
DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION
Testing whether 16,933 is divisible by 7

16,933 (we consider the last digit which is 3)

(7*9) 63 (63 is used since it is a multiple of 7 and ends with 3)

16870 (the zero is ignored where seven is considered and 7 is used)

(7*1) - 7

1680
(7*4) -28 (here 28 is used since it ends with 8)

140

(7*2) -14

0 (our final answers are zeros plus the ignored ones)

From this method we can conlude thst 16933 is divisible by

seven since the last digits are zeros and also if we take the
numbers used to be multiplied by seven inorder to subtract
and arrange them from the last used to the first used and
multiply them by seven we get back to the original number.
e.g numbers which were multiplied by seven are:
7*9
7*1
7*4
7*2

Here we take 2,4,1,and 9 by arranging them from the last to

first used. 2419*7=16,933

16933 is divisible by 7
Example 2
To test whether 3101 is divisible by 7

3101

(7*3) -21 (21 is used since the last number is 1 )

3080

(7*4) -28 (28 is used since the last number is 8 and 0 is ignored)
280

28 (28 is also used since the last number is 8 and 0 is ignored)

000 (the last digit gotten after subtraction are zeros so the
number is divisible by seven)

After subtraction we can prove that the number is divisible by seven because the last digits are
zeros and when we multiply back 443 by 7 we get back 3101

3101 is divisible by seven.

EXAMPLE 3

To test if 21341 is divisible by seven

21341

(7*3) -21 (21 is used because the number ends with 1)

2132

(7*6) -42 (42 is used because the number ends with 2)

2090

(7*7) -49 (49 is used because the number ends with 9)

160
I this case the last digits gotten after subtraction is 16. When we get back to the multiples of
seven the multiples of seven which ends with 6 is 56 so 16 is not divisible by 7 and it can not be
subtracted by 56 to get final zeros. Since at long last we have not gotten zeros we can prove
that 21341 is not divisible by 7

DATA INTERPRETATION

As the original number proceeds to be subtracted and the zeros are ignored the number goes
on decreasing and becoming smaller and smaller. Many numbers were used and tested thus
this method is accurate.

CHAPTER FIVE

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION.

CONCLUSION

This method is suitable for learners since it is easy and faster to do and it also saves time and
increases creativity and thinking of a student. Many numbers were tested and the method was
proven to be accurate.

RECOMMENDATION

I would wish to do further research on this project and make it perfect with the help of the
government and our school.
