Two Tangent Theorem:

Tangent segments formed by two tangent lines that intersect at an external point are congruent.
Imagine you have a circle, and you draw two tangent lines from an external point to touch the circle at
two different points. Let's call these points A and B. Now, draw the line segments from the external
point to the points where the tangents touch the circle (points A and B). According to the Two Tangent
Theorem, these line segments (AP and BP) are congruent, meaning they have the same length
3. Tangent-Angle Bisector Theorem
If two tangents of a circle intersect at an external point, then the line segment from the center to the
external point bisects the angle formed by the tangent lines.
Tangent-Angle Bisector Theorem

Example 1!

AB/BC = AD/DC
x/(x-2) = (x+2)/(x-1)
x(x−1) = (x−2)(x+2)
x2 − x = x2 − 4
−x = −4
x=4
Therefore, the value of x is 4.
4. Tangent - Chord Theorem
The measurement of an angle
formed by a chord and a
tangent intersecting at the
point of tangency is half the
measure of the intercepted arc.

The measure of an angle is formed by tangent and a secant,
two tangents, or two secants that intersect an external point
is half the difference of the measures of the intercepted arcs.

Angle of Intersecting Tangents and Secants Theorem Two Tangent:
Tangent segments formed by two tangent

Lets try!
lines that intersect at an external point are
congruent.

Problem:

In a circle with center O, a tangent is drawn at point A, and a secant BOC is drawn from an
external point B. If the measure of arc BDC is 120 degrees and the measure of arc BC is 60
degrees, find the measure of angle BAC.

Solution:

The Two Tangent Theorem states that the angle formed between a tangent and a secant
is equal to half the difference of the intercepted arcs. Therefore, we can use the formula:

D 12
0 Angle BAC = (1/2) * (arc BDC - arc BC)

Given that arc BDC measures 120 degrees and arc BC measures 60 degrees, we can
substitute these values into the formula:

o
Angle BAC = (1/2) * (120 degrees - 60 degrees)

Angle BAC = (1/2) * 60 degrees

Angle BAC = 30 degrees

B 60
Therefore, the measure of angle BAC is 30 degrees.
