Performance Task: Demystifying Math: A Speech on Calculus,

Statistics, and Probability in Action


Topic: As a group of 3, deliver a speech explaining the interconnectedness of basic calculus, statistics, and
probability. Highlight a real-life application of these concepts, along with a related societal issue.

Performance Task Requirements:

• Prepare a 3-5-minute speech focusing on one real-life application of calculus, statistics, and probability.
• Explain how each branch of mathematics plays a role in the application.
• Discuss the impact of this application on a specific societal issue.
• Address any ethical considerations surrounding the application.

Grading:

Your speech will be graded based on the rubric below. The content, clarity, and depth of your explanation, your
chosen application and its societal impact, your response to different questions, and the overall effectiveness of
your presentation will all be considered.
