B. COACH (Do and Think) (50mins)

ACTIVITY:
Before we start, let’s have a bit of looking back on how far we’ve come and ponder on things that we can
improve. So, answer these questions as best as you can:

What’s something you’ve been working on frequently lately?

It doesn’t have to be a big thing. It can be as simple as trying to wake up earlier every day, eating less carbs,
drinking more water, and exercising every day.

Answer:

1. I'll been practicing our Karate in kata and practice the formation in ROTC.

What’s something you wish you could do better?

This means this is something that you’re already doing but not quite an expert in.
Anwer;
I wish I can finish my study to 4th year college and to pass all my examination.

In the past week, what mistake did you make- big or

small- that still irritates you?

Answer:
2. I've been lazy of doing STUDY my examination and it's irritating me it's because it's my fault.

If you know you wouldn’t fail, what would you do?

(For example: Write a novel. Be an astronaut! Become the next Philippine Idol!
Remember: The idea here is that what you intend to do, you are guaranteed to be a success.)

Answer.
3. I'll be an officers someday , to help my citizen and to serve out county and by that I also help
my family to uplift out life.

The questions above demonstrate how we usually use a certain kind of thinking that limits the things we
can achieve. This is called a Fixed Mindset. A Fixed Mindset makes us focus on the things we can't do, on our
limitations, on our challenges—without helping us think of a way to get out of that situation.
The opposite of that kind of thinking is called the GROWTH MINDSET. This is what we're going to work on
today.

So, what exactly is a Growth Mindset? What happens when we have one?

"A growth mindset is simply the belief that

our basic abilities can be developed and
improved through dedication and hard work.
It's not so much that this belief is some kind
of magic. It's just that without a growth
mindset, we don't exert the required effort
and so we remain perpetually stuck."

Growth Mindset", Psychology Today

If, for any reason, you are unable to find the control and peace of mind you need no matter how hard
you try, don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with you. You just might need help from an expert. If you’re feeling
at loss, depressed, confused to the degree that already consumes you, please reach out to your teacher as
soon as possible. Help is available. Help is always available.

Aside from having a Growth Mindset, a developing habit of good study skills may help you to succeed
in learning. Everyone has certain strengths and weaknesses when it comes to schoolwork. Maybe you’re great
at taking notes, but you need a little help remembering what you read, or vice versa. Just because you have
trouble with a particular skill now doesn’t mean you always will—it just means you’ll have to work a little harder
on that skill until you improve. The first step towards mastering study skills is to understand your strong and
weak points, so you know what to focus on in school.

“Ten Habits of Successful Students”

1. Try not to do too much studying at one time.
If you try to do too much studying at one time, you will tire yourself out and your studying will not be very
effective. Space the work you have to do over shorter periods of time. Taking short breaks will restore your
mental energy.

2. Plan specific times for studying.

Study time is any time you are doing something related to schoolwork. It can be completing assigned reading,
working on a paper or project, or studying for a test. Schedule specific times throughout the week for your
study time.

3. Try to study at the same time each day.

Studying at the same time each day establishes a routine that becomes a regular part of your life, just like
sleeping and eating. When a scheduled study time comes up during the day, you will be mentally prepared to
begin studying.

4. Set specific goals for their study times.

Goals will help you stay focused and monitor your progress. Simply sitting down to study has little value. You
must be very clear about what you want to accomplish during your study times.

5. Start studying when planned.

You may delay starting your studying because you don't like an assignment or think it is too hard. A delay in
studying is called "procrastination." If you procrastinate for any reason, you will find it difficult to get everything
done when you need to. You may rush to make up the time you wasted getting started, resulting in careless
work and errors.

6. Work on the assignment they find most difficult first.

Your most difficult assignment will require the most effort. Start with your most difficult assignment since this is
when you have the most mental energy.

7. Review their notes before beginning an assignment.

Reviewing your notes can help you make sure you are doing an assignment correctly. Also, your notes may
include information that will help you complete an assignment.

8. Tell their friends not to call or disturb them during their study times.
Two study problems can occur if your friends call you during your study times. First, your work is interrupted. It
is not that easy to get back to what you were doing. Second, your friends may talk about things that will distract
you from what you need to do. Here's a simple idea - turn off your cell phone during your study times.

9. Call another student when they have difficulty with an assignment.

This is a case where "two heads may be better than one." Of course, make sure you don't disturb him during
his study time as well.

10. Balance study time and leisure time.

Successful students study hard but they also find time to relax, do some leisure activities, engage in sports,
and pursue other interests on some topics only. Just make sure to ask for students' insights on each of the
main topics. Also, ask them if they have been applying any of the skills or studying strategies themselves.

ACTIVITY:
"How Well Can I?” Assessing Students’ Current Study Skills

Everyone has certain strengths and weaknesses when it comes to schoolwork. Maybe you’re great at
taking notes, but you need a little help remembering what you read, or vice versa. Just because you have
trouble with a particular skill now doesn’t mean you always will—it just means you’ll have to work a little harder
on that skill until you improve. The first step towards mastering study skills is to understand your strong and
weak points so you know what to focus on in school.

Find a partner. Rate yourself on the skills below, using a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 1 means you need a
lot of improvement in that area, and a score of 5 means you are very good in that area. Be honest with your
answers and explain to your partner why you rated yourself in that manner—this will help you identify ways to
become an even better student and have an insight of another person how you assess yourself.
