Enamel
■ – the hard tissue that covers the crown
portion of the tooth (hardest substance in
the body)
■ A strong barrier, enamel protects the inner
layers of your teeth, including the dentin
and pulp. It safeguards against decay
caused by acids and plaque, and it
protects the sensitive inner layers of the
tooth from extreme temperatures (like hot
and cold foods).

■ Cementum – the substance covering the
root surface of the tooth. (tooth support or
tooth anchorage)
■ Dentin – the material forming the main
inner portion of the tooth structure-softer.
