ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

An internship or an industrial training is an essential part of an engineering

student life, as it relates the theory studied by him/her to the practical and gives
a vision to understand things in a better way technically. As a BE-EEE student,
having on-the-job training is very essential in today's ever-dynamic world.
Hands-on experience lets us apply our theoretical knowledge and see how
businesses function in the real world.

We heartfully thank HRD of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited-Electronics

Division unit (EDN) for providing us with an opportunity that has a great
chance for learning, Exploring, professional Development, and the completion
of our internship became still more easier with their help and suggestions.

We would like to express special thanks and gratitude for the guidance,
knowledge, and assistance received from SHRI. AMIT KUMAR JOEL,
DGM/CE-Engg-HMI&SS,BharatHeavy Electronics Limited, Electronic
Division, Mysore Road, Bangalore, for guiding us with the platform to work on
this report. We are proud to work under such a pioneer and large organization.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, which is also a pride of India.

We are also grateful for having a chance to meet so many people and
professionals especially SHRI ABHISHEK ANAND, Deputy Manager who led
us through this Internship period.

ABOUT BHEL & BHEL –ELECTRONICS DIVISION

Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), a public sector enterprise, is an engineering and
manufacturing company based in New Delhi, India. Established in 1964. It is India’s largest
power generation equipment manufacturer. It is under the administrative control of the Ministry
of Heavy Industries. BHEL was established under the name of Heavy Electricals (India)
Limited at Bhopal, ushering in India’s indigenous Heavy electrical equipment industry. This
was followed by three other plants at Trichy, Hyderabad and Haridwar. These plants were
functioning under the name of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. HEAVY ELECTRICAL
LIMITED (INDIA) was merged with BHEL in 1974.
Over time, it developed the capability to manufacture various electrical, electronic and
industrial equipment for all sectors, including power generation, transmission, transportation,
oil and gas, and other allied industries. However, most of the company’s revenue is derived
from selling equipment for power generation, such as turbines, boilers, etc. As of 2022, BHEL-
supplied equipment contributed to about 53% of India’s total installed power generation
capacity. The company also supplies Electrical Locomotives to Indian Railways and Defense
equipment such as the Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) naval guns manufacturedin
partnership with the Indian Ordnance Factories and Defense Simulators to the Indian Armed
Forces.
BHEL is embracing the next phase of its growth on the strength of a sturdy foundation of 50
years of its journey of engineering excellence. BHEL has a Pan-India network of 16
manufacturing facilities, 2 repair units, 4 regional offices, 8 service centers, 3 active joint
ventures, 15 regional marketing centers, and 3 overseas offices to cater to the export markets. It
is executing projects at more than 150 sites across India and abroad, with a highly skilled
workforce of over 30000.
BHEL’s Electronics Division(EDN) of BHEL was formed in 1976 by taking over the erstwhile
Radio and Electricals Manufacturing Company (REMCO), a Government of Karnataka
Undertaking. The takeover aimed to establish a solid base in power electronics to
supplementthe company’s pioneering efforts in power generation and transmission equipment
manufacturing. BHEL manufactures various power thyristors and diodes at the EDN,
Bengaluru.
