only state language of Pakistan. The
Bengal is composed and protested this
unjust imposition and denial of the status
of their mother language. They demanded
for bangla to be given the status of the
status language. Their protests culminated
on 21 February 1952 when the police fired
on a procession brought by the students
at Dhaka university campus. Some of
valiant souls –Rafique, jabbar, Salam,
barkat were killed. They are the first
martyrs in the world for the cause of
language. This blood – shedding is the
historical 21st February. Since then the day
is being observed as shaheed dibash.

Mother Language Day. Every nation has
remarkable achievements that they can
take pride in it. Our language day is our
national event and success. Now, after the
identification, our language day observes
globally as international mother language

recognized Urdu as the state language of
Pakistan in 1948 and tried to impose it on
the Bangla speaking majority people. The
ruling authority imposed section 144 all
over the country as the protest grew
powerful. However, when students
politicians and general masses brought
out a procession in Dhaka University area
defying section 144, the police imposed
fire on the parade. As a result, Rafiq,
Jabbar, Salam, Barkat, Shafiq met

Language Day
Paragraph for SSC
International Mother Language Day is
observed annually on February 21st to
promote linguistic and cultural diversity
around the world. This day serves as a
reminder of the importance of preserving
and celebrating one’s mother tongue,
which is a fundamental aspect of identity
and heritage. The celebration originated
from the tragic events of February 21,
1952, in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan),
where students protesting for the
recognition of Bengali as one of the
national languages were brutally killed by
the police. This day not only
commemorates their sacrifice but also
emphasizes the significance of linguistic
rights and the need to safeguard
languages from extinction. It encourages
multilingualism and fosters mutual respect
among different language communities,
contributing to the promotion of peace
and understanding globally. Through
various cultural events, educational
programs, and advocacy efforts,
International Mother Language Day
celebrates the beauty and richness of
languages and reinforces the idea that
linguistic diversity is a source of strength
for societies worldwide.
