DISASTER ON TENERIFE

HISTORY’S WORST
AIRLINE ACCIDENT

Presenter

Mujtaba Babar.
WHAT ARE THE AIRCRAFT INVOLVED IN THE
ACCINDENT? HOW MANY AIRCRAFT?

-Pan Am 1736 and KLM 4805 are

both Boieng 747, there are two
aircraft only.
GIVE THE SUMMARY OF THE ACCIDENT AND INCIDENT
OR DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED.

The Tenerife airport disaster occurred on March 27, 1977, when

two Boeing 747 passenger jets collided on the runway at Los Rodeos
Airport on the Spanish island of Tenerife. The collision occurred
when KLM Flight 4805 initiated its takeoff run while Pan Am Flight
1736 was still on the runway. The impact and resulting fire killed
everyone on board KLM 4805 and most of the occupants of Pan Am
1736, with only 61 survivors in the front section of the aircraft.
Resulting in 583 fatalities, the disaster is the deadliest accident in
aviation history
HOW THIS MISCOMMUNICATION
PLAY PART IN THE ACCIDNET AND
INCIDENT? • Communication breakdown,
at the airport that day there
are three languages were
being spoken by ATC and airline
crew members. Breakdown
communication led to a critical
mistakes, the take off roll
continuing, simply had the take
off been aborted the disaster
would have been averted.
WHAT ARE THE OTHER
FACTORS WHY THE INCIDENT
AND ACCIDENT HAPPENED.
1. One of the factors why the accident and incident
happened cause of the time pressure and communication
break down.
2. Two jumbo jet facing each other on the same runway but
unable to see each other because of the fog. PAN AM
1736 taxing directly toward KLM 4805.
3. Two cockpit crews who were having trouble
to understanding their taxi instructions from
tower.
4. Lastly the fog that was so heavy to the controller in the
tower could not see the plane.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE SO THE INCIDENT
AND ACCIDENT COULD HAVE AVOIDED.
● The things should be done is that we avoid the
accident or incident during theflight is to give
clearly update or clearly message so that our
receiver understand the information clearly and
understandable to prevent accident or incident during
our flight. because when we have a poor
communication with the tower and pilots we our
nearly from the accident or incident because they don't
have clearly idea in the situation of the flight specially
when we have a poor weather situation like bad
weather or foggy days.
THANKS!
