SMART PARKING INNOVATION

● 5 types of smart parking innovation

1. SMART SENSORS
This smart parking system entails an lot-based system
that transmit data about free parking places through a wired
or wireless system via the web or mobile application

The most widely adopted sensors for smart parking IoT

systems include:
■ Vision systems
■ Overhead radars
■ Magnetometers
■ Ultrasonic sensors
■ Infrared sensors(IR)

Vision systems are based on digital sensors embedded within

industrial cameras and optics, specialized for acquiring images.
The integrated hardware and software process analyses and
measures different attributes to give a meaningful result.

The overhead radar sensor-generates 2D images with the help

of artificial intelligence and can substitute video cameras.

For Magnetometer, these sensors use the surrounding magnetic

field to identify large metallic objects such as vehicles. For
example, sensors collect information to create a demand profile
for parking lots, where greater prominence is provided to
occupied parking lots (checked) compared to the vacant ones.

Ultrasonic. These sensors emit sound waves on a

pre-determined frequency and measure the distance between
themselves and the object that stands in the wave path. The
effectiveness and precision of this technology has led to its
adoption in many smart parking solutions. These sensors are
employed to detect whether a parking lot is free or occupied
(parking status)

Infrared sensors measure the distance between two objects.

When an object comes closer to the sensor, the infrared light from
the LED reflects off the object and is traced by the receiver. The
infrared sensor uses light, so any object in front of the sensor may
lead to false detection.

2. PARKING APPS
Connecting to what I’ve discussed earlier, these parking
apps on smartphones help drivers to find the closest available
parking spot without having an effort to drive around.

Other than finding parking space, these apps can also

use to easily locate your car after a long day of work.

3. CAR PARKING LIFTS

Car lifts take advantage of your garage’s unused
vertical space by elevating your vehicle off the floor. This
allows you to park another vehicle underneath it. A car lift is
a great alternative to an expensive renovation that increases
your garage’s size.

4. PAY-BY-PLATE PARKING METHOD

Pay by plate parking is a paperless system that works
by using a vehicle licence plate number rather than a paper
ticket. Pay by plate only records the plate number entered,
this is not associated with, or cross-referenced to any other
authorities’ data base for vehicle registrations. No vehicle
owner information is captured when paying with pay by plate
machines.

5. 3D PARKING DESIGN AND SIGNALING

The sensor emits an audible beeping noise when something is too close to
the car. It is designed to detect obstacles when backing up. These sensors are
able to detect objects in front of or behind your vehicle, enabling you to avoid
running into them. It warns drivers with an audio and visual alarm when they’re
about to hit something. With 3Dparking sensors, you can park more quickly and
safely than without them.
