Dynamic Assessment (DA) distinguishes itself from conventional testing by delving beyond mere
knowledge assessment, aiming to gauge an individual's learning process and progression. Unlike
traditional tests that provide a snapshot of someone's knowledge at a specific moment, DA entails
collaborative interaction between the assessor and the individual being tested. It resembles a
cooperative effort where the assessor offers guidance and assistance in problem-solving. In contrast to
rigid tests with predetermined questions and scores, DA exhibits greater flexibility. While other
assessments focus on specific abilities or knowledge at a singular point in time, they fall short in
revealing how someone navigates learning new concepts or tackles novel challenges. Imagine applying
DA to evaluate a child's mathematical aptitude. Rather than presenting a set of questions, the assessor
and the child collaboratively tackle increasingly complex math problems. The assessor intervenes with
hints or introduces alternative problem-solving approaches based on the child's performance. This
methodology transcends a mere evaluation of existing knowledge, shedding light on the child's ability to
learn and adapt with guidance. Through close collaboration and adaptability in testing, DA provides a
profound understanding of an individual's learning dynamics. Its applicability in education is invaluable,
offering insights into optimal learning approaches and avenues for further development based on
individual needs and learning styles.
