1 (i) State Biot-Savart’s law. Using this derive the expression for magnitude and direction
of magnetic field at a point on the central axis of a circular current carrying coil.
(ii) Show that the magnetic field at a far point resembles the magnetic field of an ideal
magnetic dipole at an axial point.
2 State Ampere’s circuital law. A long straight wire of a circular cross section of radius
carries a steady current . The current is uniformly distributed across the cross section.
Apply Ampere’s circuital law to calculate the magnetic field at a point at a distance of
from the central axis in the region for (i) (ii) . Plot a graph to show the
variation of magnetic field versus the distance .
3 Draw neat and labeled diagram of a Moving coil Galvanometer. Explain the working principle of
it. How do you converts MCG into (i) an Ammeter,(ii) Voltmeter of given Range.
4 What is the significance of radial field in MCG? How is it produce?
Write the Expression for current and Voltage Sensitivity of it.
5 Derive the expression for force per unit length experienced by parallel current carrying
conductor and hence define one Ampere.
6 Draw a proper labeled diagram showing the different elements of Earth’s magnetism.

the axis of the solenoid carrying current
8 A galvanometer has a resistance 30 and gives a full scale deflection for a current of a 2mA.
How much resistance and in what way must be connected to convert it into

9 (i) Draw a schematic sketch of a cyclotron. Explain clearly the role of crossed electric
and magnetic fields in accelerating the charge. Hence, derive the expression for the
kinetic energy acquired by the particles.
(ii) An -particle and a proton are released from the centre of the cyclotron and made
to accelerate, which of the two will have higher velocity at the exit slit of the dees?
Explain.
10 A rectangular coil carrying current placed within a uniform magnetic field such that Plane of
the coil makes certain angle with the field. Derive the expression for torque acting on this coil.
11 What is velocity selector? What is its significance? Derive the formula related to it.

(i) the emf induced in the rod

(b) Derive an expression for self inductance of a long solenoid of length l, cross-sectional area

22 Define self-inductance of a coil. Obtain the expression for the energy stored in an inductor L
connected across a source of emf. Hence derive the Energy density.
23 (a) Define mutual inductance. Write its S.I. units.
(b) Derive an expression for mutual inductance of two long co axial solenoids of length l.
24 State Lenz law. Explain how is it based on law of conservation of energy.
25 Draw a neat and labeled diagram of AC Generator. Explain its working principle and derive
the expression for instantaneous induced emf .
