PREFACE
Tourist attraction is a core component of the tourism industry, the main reason why tourists come to a
certain place, hence the name. It is a certain place of interest due to its, natural or cultural value,
historical significance, may it be natural or man- made that one may enjoy experiencing. There are many
different types of tourist attractions that are found around the world including Maguindanao.

A natural tourist attraction is one that is naturally occurring. In other word, it is not built by man. There
are many types of natural attractions in Maguindanao, in many cases, areas surrounding natural
attractions have been developed for tourism because of the natural attraction that is on offer.

Here are some of the different types of natural attractions in Maguindanao.

Mountains are some of the most popular types of tourist attractions. A mountain is a natural elevation
of the earth’s surface. Tourists choose to visit mountains for a number of reasons. They may simply want
to enjoy the scenery or they may be in search of cool weather, or choose mountains for hiking activities.
In Maguindanao we have Mt. Mamayupasa of Barira Municipality, Mt. Minandar from Datu Odin
Sinsuat, Mt. Biarong of Upi Municipality.

Falls visiting a waterfalls is on many people’s travel to do list. Many destinations have waterfalls that
attract tourists just like the famous waterfalls of Barira Municipality the Bubuludtua falls and number of
falls from Upi municipality and from other municipalities of Maguindanao.

Caves are natural voids in ground. Some caves are small and other caves are large. Many people choose
to visit caves in order to take a look at the natural formations or to undertake active pursuits, such as
caving, diving and canoeing. Caves are often home to many different species of bats, mice, rats and
various insects we have also caves in Upi and Datu Odin Sinsuat.

Beach is particularly popular amongst populations who live in predominantly cooler climates, many
tourist seek warm weather and soft sand and head to exotic shores to satisfy their desires. Datu Odin
Sinsuat has a various beach to offer, as well as the Datu Blah Sinsuat, Matanog and Parang Municipality.

Lagoon is defined as a shallow body of water separated from the ocean or from larger bodies of water
by a reef or other barrier. The famous Blue Lagoon is found at Datu Odin Sinsuat.

Spring is a place where water moving underground finds an opening to the land surface and emerges,
sometimes as just a trickle, maybe only after a rain, and sometimes in a continuous flow. Spring water
can also emerge from heated rock underground, giving rise to hot springs which people have found to
make a delightful way of soaking away their problems.” Bual Spring” of Datu Abdullah Sangki and “ The
Taviran Spring”of Datu Odin Sinsuat are one of the tourist attractions in Maguindanao.

Tourist attractions contribute significantly reap economic benefits of tourism and promote the local
culture heritage and environment. It is important, however, that tourist attractions are well-managed.
While the travel is a leisure and already a recreation to most, it still differs when you know the other
side is worth the money time and effort, much more when you are confident about your safety. For
decades, safe and Maguindanao can only be read in a sentence when there is a word “not” nearby. It is
only recently that people who live outside the province gained their confidence that they’d be unlikely
caught in the middle of a firefight, or other incidents possible. As such, the Office of the Provincial
Tourism of the Makabagong Maguindanao is committed into promoting the positive changes over the
years along with the gems the province was blessed with, the attractions, through different channels
and one of which is this book that aims to change the way others see our beloved province.
