1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
a) All items described within this section shall comply with the provisions of
Section 15001: General M&E Requirements.
2. UNITS OF MEASUREMENT
3. SCALING
c) The number of scale markings shall be the maximum consistent with the
required accuracy and with ease of reading.
4. FIXING
c) Where gauges and switches are measuring the same parameter, they
shall be mounted adjacent to each other at a distance not greater than
500mm apart. They shall be mounted at the same hydraulic process
datum, and where practicable, gauges and switches shall be mounted at
the 0% process datum. Where this is not practicable, details of zero
suppression or elevation shall be denoted on the device label.
d) The use of common pressure tappings with multiple take-offs for critical
control or emergency shutdown shall not be permitted. Separate
process tappings, impulse lines and valving shall be utilised for individual
pressure switches and gauges utilised within critical or emergency
shutdown systems.
5. LABELLING
b) The use of ferric couplings and tubing, with the exception of stainless
steel, shall not be permitted.
d) The connection between the process tapping and the primary isolation
valve shall be made by use of a stainless steel BSP Hexagonal nipple.
The selection of materials for all tubing and fittings shall be determined by
the nature of the process fluid and the installation environment, e.g.
c) The use of multi-way copper and nylon tubing shall be used only in
specific approved applications.
d) All fittings for use on copper and nylon tubing shall be of brass
compression single olive type.
e) All pressure gauges and switches shall be fitted with a stainless steel
isolating and calibrating manifold. The open calibration port, when not in
use, shall always be fitted with a plug.
c) Any spare gauges and pressure switches supplied shall also be tested
for accuracy before storage.
d) Calibration certificates for instruments and testing equipment used for all
tests shall be provided.
e) All test equipment shall have a standard of accuracy four times better
than the manufacturer’s stated accuracy for the equipment to be tested.
Pressure measurement standard gauges or calibration reference units
are required to be better than ±0.1% of full scale.
