 The teacher will let the learners watch the short video clip entitled: waves
 Ask the learners the following questions after watching the video:
- What can you say about the video clip shown?
- What do you think is our lesson for today?

- Presentation of the Lesson: Waves

- Reading of Lesson Objectives

- Unlocking of Difficulties: (For Literacy skills)

- A wave can be defined as a periodic disturbance that travels away from its
source in which energy is transmitted.
- • Wave pulse refers to a single disturbance that will start the series of
disturbances or waves.
- • Transverse waves happen when waves travel in a direction perpendicular to
the direction of the wave movement.
- • Longitudinal waves happen when the waves travel in a direction parallel to
the direction of wave movement.
- • Surface waves happen when the waves travel both as transverse and
longitudinal waves, in which the movement of the wave particles at the surface
is nearly circular.

concepts and
practicing new skills EXPLORE
#1 1. Organize 3 groups the group
2. Distribute activity sheets and prepare materials needed
3. Present & discuss procedures, precautionary measures and rubrics

Group tasks: 15 minutes time limit

Learning Station 1: WHAT YOU WILL DO – Group I
Task A:

1. Fix one end of the rope by tying it around the post or rod and have a single
disturbance in one end of the rope.
2. Sketch the waveform or the shape of the waveform or shape of the wave
created.
3. What is the medium or materials used in this activity through which wave
propagates.

Learning Station 2: - PUSH AND PULL (Group II)

Task B.

1. Used slinky coil, let a partner hold one end of the coil. Then push and
pull the other end.
2. Sketch of the waves in a slinky coil spring.
3. What is/are the medium or materials used in this activity through which
wave propagates.

Learning Station 3: LET US MAKE WAVES (Group III)

Task C.
1. Make a paper boat
2. Dip your fingertips at the center of the basin with waters and put the
paper boat.
3. Sketch the waves from the water basin.

(Note: For Numeracy skills – You may measure how fast the light travels per second and sound
waves period)
What is the light per second?
Light from a stationary source travels at 300,000 km/sec (186,000
miles/sec). The distance of the moon can be measure by the light travels from
Earth to the moon back and forth.
The number of pressure variations per second is called the frequency of
sound, and is measured in Hertz (Hz) which is defined as cycles per second.

Surface wave

Surface waves happen when the waves travel both as

transverse and longitudinal waves, in which the
movement of the wave particles at the surface is nearly circular.

 The teacher asks this question and process students’ answers:

So, what is the importance of wave in our lives??

Waves are the energy responsible for transferring information; they help us
discover new astronomical findings, can be used in countless ways in the
medical field, and help us locate new archeological finds via ground-penetrating
radar

Tōhoku Earthquake, severe natural disaster that occurred in northeastern Japan on
March 11, 2011. he official total for the number of those confirmed dead or listed as
missing from the 2011 disaster was about 18,500. Other estimates gave a final toll of at
least 20,000. The great majority of those killed were drowning victims of the tsunami
waves

Generalization:
Waves carries energy by the single disturbance called wave pulse and travels away from
its source until the energy transmitted.
There are three types of waves, transverse waves, longitudinal waves and surface wave,
each waves have different characteristics. Studying the importance of wave can be
helpful in studying astronomy, helps various medical field, and archeological work.
