NEARBY LANDMARKS
ROAD ACCESSIBILITY
NORTH
A north-facing orientation can be a great choice for a retirement community designed for
performing, visual, and literary artists in Talisay City, Cebu. North-facing windows receive
indirect sunlight throughout the day, which creates a softer, more diffused light that is ideal for
artists working with delicate materials like paints, fabrics, or manuscripts. The diffused light
creates a more calming and serene atmosphere, which can be conducive to focused work and
relaxation, especially for older adults. While Cebu is not immune to typhoons, the prevailing
winds during these storms often come from the east or southeast. A north-facing orientation may
offer some protection from the strongest winds and rain compared to directly east or west-facing
units.
SOUTH
While a south-facing building orientation has some potential benefits for a retirement community
for artists in Talisay City, Cebu, it's crucial to consider its drawbacks and weigh them against the
specific needs of the artists and the site constraints. South-facing windows receive direct sunlight
throughout most of the day, which can be beneficial for Visual and Performing artists. Cebu's hot
climate makes south-facing facades susceptible to excessive heat gain, requiring extensive
shading and potentially increasing cooling costs. While a south-facing orientation might seem
appealing for some aspects, it's important to prioritize the artist's comfort, artwork protection,
and energy efficiency in Cebu's climate. Carefully evaluating the trade-offs, considering
alternative layouts, and incorporating effective shading strategies are crucial for creating a
successful and sustainable retirement community for artists in Talisay City.
EAST
An east-facing building orientation for a retirement community for artists in Talisay City, Cebu,
could be a good option, offering some advantages and requiring some considerations. Morning
light is Perfect for visual artists who prefer soft, warm light in their studios. This light is ideal for
working on details and colors without the harshness of direct midday sun. An east-facing
orientation offers scenic sunrise views, which can be inspiring and uplifting for artists. Less
direct sunlight compared to south-facing, potentially reducing heat gain and making the building
more comfortable, especially in the afternoon. Though it might not be ideal for performing artists
who require natural light for afternoon or evening events. While Cebu's climate is hot, east-
facing can offer some relief from afternoon heat.
WEST
A west-facing building orientation for a retirement community for artists in Talisay City, Cebu
has both potential benefits and drawbacks to consider. Afternoon light can be ideal for visual
artists who work well with warm, golden light, particularly for specific art forms like landscapes
or portraits. While Cebu's climate is hot, the afternoon sun's intensity often weakens as it gets
lower, potentially reducing heat gain compared to south-facing facades. Direct western sunlight
can be intense and uncomfortable, especially during the hottest part of the day. This might
require extensive shading and potentially increase cooling costs. Studios might receive less
natural light in the mornings, which could be less than ideal for some artists who prefer working
with morning light.
