Solar Energy & Panel

Q1. Plug the gaps:-

a. Solar energy refers to capturing the energy from the Sun and converting it
into electricity.

b. Alexandre Edmond Becquerel discovered the solar energy effect.

c. Solar power plants can last 40 years or more.

d. Excess electricity produced by solar panels is fed to the electric grid.

e. Photovoltaic solar panel absorbs sunlight to generate direct current

electricity.

Q2. State True or False:-

a. Solar Energy is expensive than fossil fuels. False

b. PV module is available in different voltages and wattages. True

c. The electrons generate electromotive force converting light to electric energy.

True

d. The solar inverter converts AC to DC powering elctronic devices. False

e. Silicon cells alone can't provide electricity for home. True

Q3. Write full forms of the following:

a. AC - Alternating Current
b. DC- Direct Current

c. PV- Photo Voltaic

Q4. Quick Reflexes:-

a. The world's largest generator of solar energy. China

b. It is used to generate electricity with solar cells or heat engines. Solar Energy

c. The most important cell part of solar photovoltaics. Silicon cells

d. The energy we can never use up completely. Renewable Energy

e. The particles in the sun's rays interact with the silicon cells to generate
electricity. Electrons

Q5. UNJUMBLE:

a. ROALS LEAPN - SOLAR PANEL b. LECRTNOE- ELECTRON

c. TALVOEG- VOLTAGE

d. WENREALEB GENRYE- RENEWABLE ENERGY

e. TOOPHTALOVSIC- PHOTOVOLTAIC f. LISINOC LECLS- SILICON CELLS

Q5. Answer the following:-

a. What is solar energy?

Ans:- Solar energy refers to capturing the energy from the sun subsequently
converting it into electricity.
b. What is the renewable energy?

Ans:- Renewable energy is energy whose source never runs out i.e we can never
use up the energy source completely. For eg: Solar energy is the renewable
source of energy.

c. Write advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.

Advantages Disadvantages

1. Renewable Energy 1. Source high cost.

2. Reduces electricity bills 2. Weather Dependent

3. Diverse Applications 3. Solar Energy storage is expensive

4. Low maintenance costs 4. Uses a lot of space

d. Explain how does solar energy works with the help of labelled diagram.

Ans: For diagram refer book pg no. 30

e. How are solar panels made with the help of labelled diagram?

Ans: Solar photovoltaics are made with a number of parts, among them most
important are silicon cells.

Silicon cells interacts with solar cell causing photovoltaic effect.

However, silicon cells alone can't provide electricity for your home. They are
paired with casing and wiring to supply power as shown in the diagram.
