environments for the teaching of

The Department of Education (DepEd),
has first implemented the Brigada Eskwela
the National Schools Maintenance Week
with the issuance of DepEd Memorandum
No. 79 in 2003 consistent with Republic
Act 8525 otherwise known as the Adopt-
A-School Program Act of 1998. From 2003
up to the present.
Every community has resources
that surround the school. These

community partnership.
The program mobilizes and brings
together thousands of parents, alumni,
civic groups, local businesses, non-
government organizations, teachers,
students, and individuals who volunteer
their time and skills to do classroom
repairs, maintenance work, and
clean-up of public elementary and
secondary schools.
DepEd Order No. 21 series of
2023
"Brigada Eskwela Implementing
Guidelines" dated August 03, 2023. The
Brigada Eskwela (BE) is a nationwide
school maintenance program that
engages all education stakeholders to
contribute their time, efforts, and
resources in ensuring that public schools
are all set in time for class opening.

Brigada Eskwela or School Brigade,
also known as the National Schools
Maintenance Week, is a nationwide
voluntary effort that was first established
in 2003.
A program of DepEd (Department of
Education) which aims to address
resource gaps faced by the Department
through strengthening partnerships with
the local communities.
Given the positive result of the program,
in 2008, it has become a permanent
activity in the school calendar where
all schools nationwide are mandated to
implement the program weeks before
the school opening.
While DepEd has yet to issue a
separate order on its policy for
classroom decorations, its guidelines
for Brigada Eskwela in DepEd Order
No. 21, s. 2023 ordered schools to
clear “school grounds, classrooms
and all its walls (of) unnecessary
artwork, decorations, tarpaulin and
posters."
